Top 3 LSU defenses since Miles got here

Since 2005, my rankings would go:
1. 2011 - because duh
2. 2016 - People forget about this defense I think because of how crazy that season was with Les getting canned and the Jimbo-Herman-Orgeron battle. They held Alabama to zero points until Bama held 4 guys on one play to score a TD. we had Devin White, Kendall Beckwith, Arden Key, Jamal Adams, Tre White, Donte Jackson etc.
3. 2010 - Arguably the most talented defense LSU has ever had. Same personnel as 2011 except adding in PP7, Drake Nevis, and Kelvin Sheppard. That defense wasn't as successful as 2011 because we were pretty young

I’d put 06 in there. They only gave up around 24 points combined in the 2 losses. Pretty sure they were top 10 in total defense in the nation that year

2016

I would put 2006 up there instead of 2016, that 2006 team I think would have won it all if we had the playoffs back then.

Fumagalli was a beast though

You're right! So good, they held Auburn to only 41 points.

2011 was my favorite sports team in history.

2016 was great on paper, and their performance against Bama was otherworldly, but that D doesn’t make my top 3 list. 2010 and 2011 were so fun to watch. Those defenses played with a swagger that I’ve yet to see replicated. 2006 would be my number three behind those two as well.

Actually 7 against auburn.

Aside from the Auburn game, that defense was pretty good. That Auburn offense was very good though that year and our poor offensive play that game didn’t help the defense at all. I believe Auburn put up 44 points on that years Bama team but lost like 56-44

2014 benefitted from Beckwith finally being put on the field and the office going very TOP controlling.

2011- 11.3 ppg allowed 261.5 total ypg
2006- 12.6 ppg allowed 242.8 total ypg

Yep. even that unproductive offense finished 9th in the country in TOP
the 2014 defense was 29th in the country in opponents yards per play while 2006 and 2011 were top 3.

His personal foul penalty against Andre Woodson is a huge reason we lost that game against Kentucky.

So I think It was a combination.
With Beckwith at MLB the defense was a ton better
But we also limited other teams possessions to YPG and PPG were way lower later in the season

Bruh, Fumagalli was an NFL draft pick and probably had more career yards receiving than every Les TE combined had at LSU
