The US women's soccer team made more revenue than the men's team over the last three years, according to financial reports analyzed by the Wall Street Journal.
quote:
Women's games reportedly brought in $50.8 million from 2016 to 2018 from mostly ticket sales. Men's games made $49.9 million in the same time frame. Before 2016, however, the men's team had generated more revenue every year, sometimes by more than $10 million.

Ticket sales make up just part of the US Soccer Federation operating revenue. The organization bundles brand sponsorships and broadcast sales between the two teams, making it harder to distinguish the difference in revenue, the Journa sa ysl.
The women's team revenue spiked in 2016 after they won the World Cup, outpacing the men's team's earnings by $1.9 million.

"Here's an idea: If you win 13-0-the most goals for a single game in World Cup history-you should be paid at least equally to the men's team," Gillibrand, a New York senator, tweeted.

Members of US women's team filed a lawsuit in March against the US Soccer Federation alleging that gender-based wage discrimination violates the Civil Rights Act. The lawsuit claims that female players make $4,950 a game ($99,000 annually) if they play 20 times a year, while men earn $13,166 a game, or $263,320 a year.
Women players earned just $15,000 for making the World Cup team, while men got $55,000 for making the roster in 2014, the lawsuit says.

The ignorance here is laughable.

How about do this differently?
Tell Nike you want them to tell you how much goes to USWNT and how much to USMNT

I don't know if it was this article or the other one but they completely gloss over the revenue brought in through TV licensing etc, except to mention that Dove and Visa in a world cup year wanted to use the USWMNT to market.
The women probably need to re-negotiate their deal but no one cares about watching on TV the "she believes cup" or friendlies against the same 6 countries. No one cares about watching on TV qualifying because its a joke.

It’s a lot easier to for them to play more games, all they have to do is find a local U15 boys team. But hey they beat a team 13-0 in the World Cup!

Kinda new to the soccer board but I have pretty strong opinions on this. I want to know where the girls stand on title IX and college soccer scholarships since they all got a free ride to play in college. I had to use half an academic scholarship because of my gender. I also was limited on where I could play because title IX. There are only 198 division 1 men’s soccer teams compared to 320 women’s teams. And it gets worse. Women’s teams get to split 14 schollys and men only get 9. That’s a disparity of 4,480 to 1,782 scholarships available just for D1. Where you at USWNT? Still fighting for equality?

Logically speaking, this triggered the frick out of me when she first made the comment.

Seems like a pretty important point, not to be glossed over.
Key point that is also is left out is lost revenue on the men's side for not making the 2018 WC, which definitely played a major part. Should their salaries decrease because of this? Maybe? I don't know.
quote:
Soccer isn't the only sport with a pay gap. Well-paid women's basketball players earn low six-figure salaries, while the minimum NBA salary is just over $838,000. Superstars like Serena Williams and Lindsey Vonn have stated male players get paid more in their sport, no matter how decorated the female player.
The stupidity here is laughable. Tying player pay solely to accomplishments makes no sense. Tell me, if a WNBA team only brings in $500K (just made up that #) in revenue a year, and they win the championship, should they pay all their players over $100K and tank the team? Serena's a dumbass.
I'm all for them getting paid based on the money they are bringing in. Same for the men. I have my doubts though on the accuracy and transparency of the figures presented in the article.

generated revenue
But they have to spend more on replacing white shorts monthly, seasonal cleat styles, and separate travel and lodging accommodations because most hate almost all the others

Lots of misogyny in here.

Can we just agree that the USWNT is insufferable and anybody who roots for them is either naive or a huge cuck?
