Why would we trade up for RJ..... I would believe it would have to be for Ja??
what would the angle be??

So I guess the Knicks aren't all in with RJ if they are open to dropping back a spot.
Which I am fine with. I want RJ so that we have talent and depth on the wing for the first time in franchise history.

Nah I think they're seriously considering taking him
The only way I see griffin going to 3 is if Morant is there
They're not trading for RJ

That's the only way I could see us moving up. If memphis, for some reason, took RJ at 2 and Ja was at 3.

I've really dove into this draft and I really disagree with this. I think the talent and potential actually drops off drastically after #7, #8 if you want to include Reddish but I want nothing to do with him.
It's just hard for me to fathom trading out of the top 7. I would much prefer one swing at a star at #4 then two swings at much lesser prospects later in the lottery.
#4 dating back 10 years
2009 Tyreke
2010 Wesley Johnson
2011 Tristan Thompson
2012 Dion Waters
2013 Cody Zeller
2014 Aaron Gordon
2015 Porzingis
2016 Dragan Bender
2017 Josh Jackson
2018 Jaren Jackson
Whole lot of meh in there.
A few good players from 9-13 dating back 10 years
2009 DeRozan #9
2010 Hayward #9 Paul George #10
2011 Kemba #9 Klay #11
2012 Drummond #9
2013 McCollum #10 Steven Adams #12
2014 Lavine #13
2015 Myles Turner #11 Booker #13
2016 Poltl #9 Sabonis #11
2017 Donovan Mitchell #13
2018 SGA #11
Tell me again how you feel about drafting at #4, or drafting #8 and #10?

Damn you.
Just when I decided I would rather stay at 4..

How would they know Memphis is not taking Ja?
Why not just stay at #4 then? RJ is a good player, just not a needle mover like Ja...

If we can't get turner I'd rather drop to 6 and pick up Coby White or one of Culver/Hunter and pick up a Protected pick
Maybe pick up Warren

I get Jamal Murray vibes from Garland. Not the best defender, not the most athletic, combo guard.
But can shoot the lights out of a gym. Pure scorer/shooter. I would absolutely take Jamal Murray at 4.
People will roll their eyes when I say this, but he looks like a lesser Steph Curry to me.
Neither are incredibly athletic, but both are incredibly shifty and quick. He won't be the level of shooter that Steph is, but I think he will be great in his own right. I don't think he will be the passer that Steph is, but I think he's better than his college numbers indicate.
There are guys that look like they have the ball on a string, then there are guys that look even more advanced than that. I think Garland fits that. What he can do with the ball is incredible.

if it makes you feel better, if you look at the #4 pick the 10 years prior to what i posted, you'd feel much much better about it.
Westbrook
Conley
Tyrus Thomas
CP3
Shaun Livingston
Chris Bosh
Drew Gooden
Eddy Curry
Marcus Fizer
Lamar Odom
3 Hall of Famers, an all-star, two role players who won multiple championships, and a guy that averaged around 13/8 for 10 years, and 3 busts.

If you want to get sick, look at the list of #2 picks.
You get a mix of HOFers like Durant, some middling guys like Emeka Okafor, and some outright disasters like Darko Milicic and Hasheem Thabeet.

I don't think the pick actually being 4 matters. What's important, IMO is that any of the players drafted from 9-13 in your exercise could've been drafted at 4. None of the players drafted at 4 could've been drafted from 9-13. You have a larger opportunity to hit at 4. I could see the allure of getting 2 bites at the apple though.

That doesn’t prove much to me. If you came out and said that the talent pool in recent years after pick 3 was a dump, you’d have a point
The talent pool is there after pick 3, you just need to identify it

I’m not really swayed by that argument.
Pick 4, by my count has 3 players who are good or are going to be good (JJJ, Porzingis, Gordon). Over 10 years that’s a 30% hit rate.
Picks 9-13 also has a 30% hit rate (15 players listed out of 50), but all those guys were available at 4, and now you could also be taking someone like Stanley Johnson, Kendall Marshall, or Jimmer Fredette.
I’m not saying we should not trade back, but if there’s a guy we really like at 4 we should take him unless we are blown away by an offer.

If he lands there, that is one less free agent our beloved Lakers can pursue.
The future drafts will be soooooo sweet...
See I think the Lakers getting Butler would be amazing.
There's no way that doesn't implode. LeBron and Jimmy will clash and they both will just yell at and berate AD. And they'll have no depth for when AD/LeBron are on "load management".

Because of the part you left out. The quality floor is higher for the 4th pick than the 8-13 picks.

I'm not trying to advocate for trading down. I want to make the pick at #4 unless we can trade it for someone really good, like Turner.
I'm just merely pointing out how much of a crap shoot the NBA draft is, since most of us have very little experience in it.
