Why can’t BR have a San Antonio type Riverwalk area?

Was in SA for work recently and stayed in the Riverwalk. What a very nice, relaxing area. Brings in tons of revenue, tourism, etc. Great atmosphere, restaurants, and entertainment.

Why can’t BR have something like this? There is zero reason. Most will say demographic and ‘culture’ would ruin it, but all it takes is a little security. SA downtown has its share of riff raft but they do a great job of keeping that out of the Riverwalk. Same can be said of security and the Houston tunnel areas.

Something like this would be a huge tourist and economy boom for BR. I don’t understand why they refuse to progress. Most will reference ‘catfish town’ but that was a poor attempt and trashy version of what could be.

With BR culcha you're talking about creating a hunting reservation essentially.

Wait. Are you telling me that the now 16 mile long levee-top bike trail isn't a good tourist draw in one of the wettest, hottest parts of the country?

Do you not understand the size of the river in BR or are you just an idiot?

Wards Creek would be perfect.

Or along Bayou Fountain.

I'm pretty sure Kip had a dream project to develop the downtown area along the levee. It included wharf type structures with restaurants etc and a boardwalk.

Well for starters, the Mississippi is a tad more volatile.

Because the Baton Rouge culcha would shoot it up nightly. And daily.

Shreveport has tried this in many incarnations on both sides of the river, they just become giant gathering points for large crowds of people who run off any potential paying customers and fail financially.

This would the the same as high fencing a hunters property and filling it with deer

Armed robbery and shootings would sky rocket

Unless things have changed since I was at Ft Sam, the Riverwalk is boring as hell

Um, there's a bit of a difference between the two rivers...

Years of continued and unstoppable political corruption leads to a constituency that would rather see the state continue to decline and fall behind everyone else than trust the law makers with their tax money to do with it what should be done.

It was tried, they called it Catfish town. After a few months the Bible thumpers shut down the suspension of open container laws and the area tanked immediately.
