A veteran of WWII. The best father I could have ever had. He loved my mother with all his heart. Never missed an opportunity to show pride in his children. In all my life, until he passed away at 93, I never saw him get angry, nor have I ever known him to swear. He will forever be my hero.

Nursie, you are and always have been an outstanding woman. You have gone above and beyond for your family. I have no words for what you have endured in their move so you can care for them. You just are, simply put...a nurse, caretaker, angel. I hope your Dad becomes your Dad again. Hugs to you, sweet lady

He ensured:
there was always a roof over my head,
the AC running when it got hot,
my stomach full,
I was enrolled in good schools,
I was interested in bettering myself,
we were enjoying SEC Football together.
He did not unlimited resources to accomplish these things.
A lesser man would've failed left and right.

As observed. Every day, we should thank the men who raised us right

A bunch of adults (that I know) showed up at my house randomly without them there just to talk to us

Nurse doesn’t swing that way

Always left him the big piece of the fried chicken.
Jokes aside, mine died when I was 12. He was an alcoholic and finally sobered up, and then he died. Helped a lot of people and they would come up to me and tell me that. Loved every moment I was with him. One of the hardest things I went through in my life. Cancer sucks. It killed my dad, my aunt, my step daughter and fixing to kill my sister.

I know, I'm not trying to be insensitive. My dad was an a-hole and got beaten to death with a hammer. Thankfully I have more of my mom's DNA

Toughest man I have ever known and been through more hell than anyone should have to endure. Had his stomach cut open when a saw blade broke. Got hit head on by a fricking drunk. Half of a knee cap and knee and hip wired together from that wreck ( 1967 technology). One of my older brothers who was 2 at the killed in the wreck. A year later me and my twin was born at 7 months. My brother died 5 days later. In 1974 his wife, my mom died from breast cancer. 1998 a heart attack, 2004 another heart attack with a double bypass. 2005 prostate cancer. This year he has been going down pretty rapidly and can barely walk and last Friday the dreaded day that he had to go into a nursing home.
I hope I can be as tough as him.

I was keeping it light. I hope you were too young to remember.

Thanks Liz for the very kind words.
His illness has torn myself and my family up to pieces. We all feel like broken shells of our former happy selves now. My mom is constantly upset by it and frustrated with my father. Even my two younger mentally challenged siblings....who used to be the most happy go lucky people that loved life....exist now under this cloud of depression. Between that (mostly that) and other stressors, it’s turned me into a very jaded, bitter woman. Hoping one day I can regain some happiness.

I know, and I appreciate the sentiment. It was ten years ago and the dude that killed him is already out of prison.

During the Depression my dad had to quit school to help support his family. He was in the 8th grade. Even without a HS diploma, he was able to work his way into a very good career. When my mom passed away, he was left to raise 8 kids on his own. He never remarried. Instead he dedicated his life to raising us kids. He taught me how to work and how to be a good husband and dad. I still miss him every day. Thanks dad. Love you.

Nurse, I hope the tides change for your family. You deserve peace.

My Dad was a nice man. Introverted, but not a bad bone in his body. He was lazy, but he wasn't a slob.
Then, he got Alzheimers and become oddly violent at times.
