Sporting News: Edward Jim Orgeron Jr. is the 15th best coach in America

No. 15: Ed Orgeron, LSU Last year: 36 (+21) Record: 41-36 (25-9 at LSU) Lowdown: What a difference a year makes for Coach O. He went from the hot seat to a New Year's Day Six victory. There are good vibes around Baton Rouge now, but the Alabama challenge still stands. The Tigers won five games against ranked teams last season, and Orgeron isn't one to back away from more challenges.

Any poll that has Jimbo Fisher as the 3rd best coach in America is a crap poll. He's a good coach, no doubt. But 3rd best in the country? We'll have to wait and see after a few years of him in the SEC to see how valid that is.

Brace for incoming Jimbo melts

who would you put above him? his resume includes a MNC. hard to find anyone else with that.

Jimbo is going to be polarizing, but all in all that looks about right as far as the SEC rankings are concerned.

But I thought he was only 14th best in the SEC? How can these both be true? I’m so confused...

It's basically 1-2 with Saban and Dabo then a huge dropoff

That's some high praise. We're lucky folks.
Now all we have to do is wait for the championships.

Les Miles and he’s 30th. There’s been a clear decline in Jimbo’s coaching post Jamesis. He obliterated an FSU program that was a preseason #2 in 2017.

You'd figure if Jimbo was so bad we could've beat him in his first year with his team.

Id have Les Miles above orgeron mullen or fisher. Just my opinion

My issue with rankings like these is i never know what metrics theyre using. Is it pure coaching ability - i.e. doing more with less? Is it a ranking of overall resume? Does it take into account potential? Here's what Sporting News used:
I'm not sure how one could argue O is the 15th most accomplished coach in CFB and Les is 30th but hey that's showbiz!
quote:
How does SN rank those coaches? How did we rank the entire 130-coach field? We look at career accomplishments, taking into account what they've achieved in recent years. When it got tight, we picked the coach we'd take in a head-to-head matchup. It's not a perfect science, but it's our science and we're sticking to it.

Surprised you’re not trashing O yet

Jimbo at 3 kills this poll for me. He is closer to 10 maybe but not 3
Posted on 6/12/19 at 3:22 pm to Tiger on the Rag
again who do you put above him?
Posted on 6/12/19 at 3:22 pm to TDsngumbo
Jumbo is 1-0 against Ogre
Posted on 6/12/19 at 3:24 pm to 1999
Did I say that? You said who else has a title on their resume and I pointed out Miles as well. The point is that those things become fairly irrelevant as time goes on.

Not much to argue with as far as SEC coaches go, but I'm not sure I put Herman and Shaw above Coach O, among others.
The Big 12 coaches get a boost because, well, they're in the Big 12.
