Besides more hardware, what makes a recruit from Louisiana go to a hated rival?

Everyone I know that is from Louisiana; especially south Louisiana, is a die hard LSU fan and would never even consider going to a school like Bama. So how do kids from as close as Baton Rouge go to Bama? I'm having a hard time with this considering that LSU is just outside of elite status, and the only major difference between the two programs is in the trenches. We get some elite big uglies and we'll be able to compete with them and the hardware will come with it. To me personally I just want a chance to earn it if I'm them.

serious question: how many black people do you know? especially lower socio-economic black people?

Landon Collins said the bama assistant's wife was really nice.

Better coaching
Better facilities
Better amenities
The aura of a winning program
The feeling of being part of the elite
The chance of making it to the NFL
Winning

Position coach is way better on DL especially, sends way more guys to NFL there.
Edit - I also get the argument if we got more of these talented guys we'd send more to the NFL as well, but again, this is just their recruiting pitch beyond winning titles.

Players don't "hate" their rivals like fans do. They just don't. They get to know one another through camps, they are used to competing with and against each other, they win and lose games without it killing them. Finally, these folks only REALLY came of age in the past 6 years are so. Until you are a "teen" you are really kinda just repeating what your family says. You don't know all that much about the 'hated rival' except that the adults around you say it.
Certainly, a large number grow up "loving" the home team and most stay. But, it isn't a mystery that others want to go somewhere else (in general) and do not "hate" the other team because there hasn't been the time for that to have truly developed.

That is not necessarily true. My girlfriend is Creole. Most black people feel a lot of pride in the state, but I think they view LSU as a thing for white A-holes only. I had to sell my GF on the factvcd that LSU is an opportunity for these young men to get out the hood, get an education and possibly become a millionaire, at worst they get a great education and adoration of the whole state. I think we are losing the kids bc/ our offers havent been strong enough (hopefully boosters will read this) and when the kids bail instead of sweet talking them back we call them traitors.

I'm from Baton Rouge I have no choice but to know black people and that statement can't be further from the truth. The only Bama fans that live in Louisiana that I met had family from that area. I guess though if you grew up poor and struggling, then a new setting might be desired away from it all. That's the ONLY reason I could understand but why pick a hated rival and boring arse Tuscaloosa?

Plus, nobody hates Dodge Chargers.

We need a better position coach then on the O-line and D-line then. Tired of always just missing one peice whether it's lineman or QB.

there is also this, but since Saban came to BR, that's largely decreased (especially after TM7 became a cultural phenomenon and OBJ became an NFL mega star). however, that wasn't what i was speaking of. i was speaking in terms of the CFB teams they support

Apparently it’s because of what people say on message boards. Kids read our posts, discard all the contact they’ve had with coaches, ignore development and opportunity to win a championship, ignore on the field results, and then make a decision based on what’s posted by us.
Pretty flattering to know we have so much influence

meet more
we literally just spent an entire recruiting cycle learning that the majority of the Amite area dick rides Bama
the combination of LSU being seen as the "rich white" school AND the cultural issues of bandwagoning make Bama an ideal choice. they know it's the perfect foil to make upper/middle class white bros go nuts, so they keep on trolling
there are a bunch of black dudes who will show up to the poker room around LC in legit full on Bama gear. when they're playing against Texas people they don't say shite but when locals play, they ramp it up to 100, yelling "Roll Tide" after every pot they win

This is how I know you never played a down of meaningful football. It hurts true players a million times worse than the fans and if it doesn't then they shouldn't be playing.

When Nick Saban pulls up to practice a sees all new cars you think he realize all the rich kids he recruited. Come on bro the top players in Alabama the last two years went out of there state you tell me why Louisiana boys love bama.

Most just want promises, and in sabans case, he just lies.
Look at moses and his turncoat crappy dad. They went after a "promise" that moses would come if Les was still here!
Imagine that. A guy who cant get a job AT ALL for 3 years after we fire him, and then takes the laughing stock Kansas job, is who those assclowns had hitched their wagon to.
See, they didnt have the lues fed to them yet by the new squad, so they went where they could be comfortable and not work hard.
Most have shite parents in their lives that crave attention more than the son

I think much like following Lebron or the Cowboys in the 80s they like a winner. The black base of the Saints fans is super strong, I think that comes from inclusion, winning and marketing. I think we should invite our black friends from work to the game and really be working our PR/marketing team on low socioeconomic black neighborhoods in La. It would pay off if we won a natty in apparel sales and enrollment alone.

EXACTLY!
Fans think because they are die hard fans of their in-state university so is everyone else. SFP is right, a lot of black folks are simply just banwagon fans of the winning programs at the moment. 15 years ago you rarely, if ever, saw any Alabama gear, stickers, etc in Louisiana. Now, it's not uncommon to see someone wearing a Bama shirt in town, or driving a car with an "A" sticker on the back. 15 years ago those same people were Miami fans...or FSU...or Michigan.
Ultimately it's their decision on where to attend college. While you would like them to attend your favorite school, they don't see the world the same way as you.
