Got a new bow all sighted in and am itching to go shoot something... figure a hog is my best bet. Where can I go in the next few weeks to take one down?

Your location would be helpful, but go look for rooting and hog wallers in the bottoms of your closest public property like Sherburn or Kisatchie.
It's hot these days so they tend to hang out and soak in the bottoms all day. Move toward feeding areas at dark. Get in between the two.
Also, bow hunting hogs in June sounds miserable. Enjoy the malaria.

I didnt downvote...
Thought my location was in my info over there but I guess not. I'm in mandeville, I know I cant go in WMAs or NWRs... may just be shite out of luck until deer season. Have property in poplarville but haven't been seeing any on camera, lots of coyotes though, but I've never predator hunted...

You live in Mandeville?
I will check with my friend who does a lot of pig hunting there. He may be looking for someone to help him.

Anyone understand the reasoning behind the feral hog rules on WMAs?

There could be a few different reasons. WMAs aren't just used for hunting, off season can be a time for non hunters to use the WMA without worrying about getting shot. They could be taking pressure on species that aren't being hunted in to consideration. Hunters don't really have as big of an impact on hog numbers as you think. When hogs aren't being shot at or chased by dogs it probably makes it easier for trappers to actually make a dent in them. I talked to a game warden last fall and he said just one of their trappers had removed close to 500 in a local WMA during the summer.

Anywhere on private land should be good to go.

You can call the WMA office and they will talk to you regarding anything you want to ask them.

Makes sense. I don't hunt them at asinine times of the year so I was unequipped to give a correct answer.

Ask around. I guarantee you someone around you is having trouble with them and would welcome you taking some out for them.
I also agree that hunting them in this heat will SUUUUUCK!

And, preferably, within 30 yards of where he is.
