y'all are missing the point

vacations are strictly a luxury item

when things are tight, you sacrifice the luxury items first

I get what you're saying, but I don't find them all to be just luxury. Its a mental health thing for me

I don't need luxury. I can shut down the engines camping in the woods for a week. That's a GREAT vacation actually, my wife just doesn't agree to those

That’s true, but something like 80% of Americans live in an urban area

the vacation doesn't have to be luxurious for a vacation to be a luxury

even just a camping trip with a family for a week can be a luxury item due to having to buy gear (tent, sleeping bags, etc) for everyone and just driving to your destination

most of us on here are upper middle class, so it's hard to imagine it taking several years to save even just $1k for a cheap vacation

but its the world that the majority of people live in

if we’re only talking Americans, they probably just put it on a credit card or spend every last dollar they have

There’s a Louis CK bit on that
Cliffs:
“Life is so good that even most people in shitty situations would rather live than kill themselves.”
