Indicated from the fast food service thread is that we can’t even get fast food service right.

Which direction are we moving? Aside from sinking into the gulf... are we progressing or moving backwards? Do you think Louisiana can or will ever get it together or are we just too far gone? I’d like to believe it’s getting better, but wasting resources seizing CBD oil shops ain’t what many would call progress.

No. Talented, capable candidates and graduates pursue other cities (Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Atlanta) for better opportunities. You've got an alarming percentage of the population that pays little to no taxes. The state is also extremely dependent upon one volatile industry. There are also no attractive qualities and incentives for companies to relocate there.

In short, to quote Judge Smails, "The world needs ditch diggers, too." Louisiana, grab your shovel.

In relationship to what? Compared to some other states, we lag behind. Other countries, not so.

If it was not for Nola I would be out west or North Carolina. I totally understand why kids graduating college are moving to other parts of the country.

Honest answer? Not a chance in hell.

But I'd love to be proven wrong.

15 years ago I thought we had a chance. Had we enjoyed a better governor for the 12 years following Foster, during the important time of Katrina, the rebuild, and the national recession, Louisiana could have made strides relative to other states.

100 years from now, I think people will look back and see how the Edwards era (and all the associated crooks) shaped how the Atlanta/New Orleans and Austin/Baton Rouge comparisons during the 70's would fall. The ten years of 2005-2015 will be shown to have cemented Louisiana as a bottom rung state, baring some miracle of leadership or technology/natural resource gain.

We have built so many plants over the past 10 years, Louisiana maybe could capitalize on related technologies and build something upon that. Energy, however has all migrated to Houston. The brain drain has helped to ensure cities like Baton Rouge will be mired in poor leadership for the foreseeable future.

The only hope for Louisiana I’m afraid is for a mass immigration from someplace nice. IOW, I don’t see it happening. Willful ignorance has a firm grip around this state.

Left the state in ‘99 after graduating LSU for job opportunity in Colorado. Moved back in ‘16 to be closer to aging parents and siblings. Love being back home, but it’s been near career suicide. Sad, because this place has so much potential.
