Its bad. Call it a pay off or a hand out or smart leverage or a host of other monikers but trying to find a gotcha with the word socialism is retarded.

I agree. Weak minded people continue to demonstrate just how weak they truly are. Gotcha here, Gotcha there, Gotcha nowhere, it's like crying wolf every single day.

ummmm...the idea here is that their "living" is harmed by the tariffs....no?

You can't have it both ways.

Perhaps. I do not know the statistics. But, there are a large number that work...but, cannot earn enough. Thus, receive welfare. Isn't that the situation here? At least, that is the claim "Farmers are working hard. But, cannot earn enough (because of tariffs). Thus, here is some Welfare to help you.

How is this like actual socialism? Does the government own the means of production? Do they control the economic exchange? Did the farmers have their land confiscated by the government? Do you even know what mother fricking socialism is?

I know what socialism is but the OP is using the definition of socialism that most board posters go with

I've also heard quite a few Trumpkins say that tariffs don't affect anybody, yet here we are with subsidies....

Seems they can't decide whether tariffs affect Americans or not

Didn't those welfare Queens just receive a 10 year / $867 billion dollar farm subsidy last year? Now another emergency $16 billion dollars?

I thought only Communist China subsidized private business?

This is not new...

Up to $30 billion is available to the program every year, an amount that has not changed since 1987, according to the Congressional Research Service. Allotment of the program's funds do not require Congressional approval.

This also includes funding for Hurrican Michael relief which the Democrats refuse to pass.

Exactly.

Walmart employees alone receive somewhere around $6-7 billion in public assistance. I'm sure other fast food & low wage employees use some assistance to get by.

These same posters also have dismissive remarks towards the Billions of dollars paid out in Earned Income Credit for those low wage workers.

I have a hard time getting upset at the people that literally keep us alive.

I'd rather subsidize farmers than have to rely on foreign countries for our food.

Yeah, I'm not going to get worked up about this.

Trump is working the long play. Americans have A.D.D.

I am more agreeable to giving someone who is working some help.

How about we stop payments to the worthless dregs of society who wont get a job? Then we can consider stopping payments to the other folks. The leaches are a much greater problem than a few farmers.

Selective socialism.

Most low wage / minimum wage workers get some form of public assistance or Earned Income Credit.

Subsidizing the farmers is more of a hand up than a hand out. No farmers equals no food. China start importing more US goods and the tariffs disappear along with the subsidy. I don’t know the statistics either but welfare has an irrefutable reputation for being a “hand out” program.

I'm not arguing the merits. Only the wording.

This is Welfare. I don't hate welfare. I think it is a good thing that is too often abused.

This is welfare. It is not socialism. Thai is my only point.
