Our bottom half batting average is just miserable

And the last bat from Hughes just showed us why. Undisciplined batters.

The rant loves Hughes. Be careful.

No hitting coach.

Hughes is horrible at batting.

Similar to FB, we recruit and live on raw talent, but don’t bother to develop them.

I mean if hughes can figure out how to hit, he'd be the next great SS.

Based on what we just saw, he would need a really good hitting coach to figure that out. Oh wait, I forgot we don’t hire hitting coach...

So we didn't develop Devin White who came in as a running back? Or the 3 star CB who fell to the 2nd round?

Hughes is batting under .200 after that K. I don’t give a shite how good your glove is, if you can’t hit better than .200 you should never see the lineup. It doesn’t matter how good your defense is if you can’t score runs.

Mississippi State's hitting coach is Jake Gautreau, who would crawl here.
And the difference in approach between their bats and ours is obvious for anyone to see.

If only there was a way we could hire a hitting coach. Evidently you’re not allowed to have that be a paid position on the staff. Sucks that the 3rd assistant thing didn’t pass

You are correct, despite what others may think or say here. All you have to do is look at the fact that LSU has more players in the NFL than any other college yet doesn't have the results to match. Other than defense, of course. I'm talking specifically about the offensive side of the ball.

Is he working for free?

No, IMO, PM didn't adjust to the rule changes in his recruiting philosophy.
Who coached Jake Mangham to hit. He hit almost .400 as a freshman.

As a freshman? Kentucky's head coach I think. After that, Jake Gautreau.

Is there any sport in which the fans are not more savvy than the HC?
Wade was over rated. Waters, terrible passer and out of control.
I'm proud or the team last night. In spite of our injuries and lack of depth we played even with a top team. I worry about the next game but have more confidence in the Regional than I did prior to the game. We had numerous opportunities but couldn't get a key hit.
Despite Walker not having his best, he gutted it out, with the help of some good defense.
I we go far enough, and need him, Beck appears to be a capable starter.
We need a couple of hitters to step up and make a difference.

On the surface I agree with the OP. If you look at our lower batters in the lineup (Garza, Hughes, Broussard), their BA is abysmal.
Not an apologist for CPM (baseball's a funny sport so press on, don't quit, let the season play-out and we'll sort it out at the end).
But I think what he wanted to do from the start was to have a dominant pitching staff (it looked like that the 1st week didn't it) and great defense (only reason Hal is in the lineup). Well, as the season unfolded, e'thing done gone frayed with all the injuries.
Skip's schedule was to get your lineup cemented by tax day. That didn't happen. So now . . .
I think CPM once again sees the pitching staff taking shape so he's going defense heavy at the expense.
What's really hurting us is Cabrera. I don't think he's hit even a foul ball solid in a while. He's just struggling.
Apart from e'thing else last night, the biggest factor in the outcome was Walker. Wasn't hitting his pots and not getting calls.

The fact that Hal Hughes continues to get ABs for LSU is mind boggling. The kid just can't hit.
