Special teams and field position were our best friends that season. We averaged less total yards than 2018 but were more efficient. But we usually had great field position
It was all about efficiency until we met a Defense that was as good if not better than ours, they knew every play and we had a RT and a QB who never showed up and whose minds were on planet X for all we knew. Predictable but it worked. If a team has dominance on the lines and an incredible defense and STs to back it up I have no problem with the attitude 'stop us if you can."
Les lost the opportunity to compete for championships when he could never elevate the QB position from flat line and could no longer get the five star studs on OL and DL at the same level as Bama's. Or, just not the depth of talent the competition could accumulate. It was time for him to go and nothing left to be said on that matter.

I've already told you I'm done talking to you for the night. There's no point in talking to you. Go bother someone else.

It's not bad if you can do something else when you have to. It seems rated catching up in the UGA game. Think we had 30 yards passing.
But it worked fine until the SECCG and NCG.
We had a reverse prob this year. We couldn't run when it was on the line

Wow! You're paranoid
You didn't start the thread, but if the subject of this topic, 2011 offense, was so bad, why hasn't it been bettered?
Being Dinosaurian and all that, it should be easy to top just one of the 4 best scoring offenses in LSU history(per LSU Media Guide)?
I do hope to see one supplanted soon, but facts are, plenty of Xbox theory and no results.....so far.

Fournette got killed running. Into 9-10 man boxes. Oooohhhhh let’s run toss dive (worst play in football) 40 times. Same with Guice. We played to their strength and we did it almost every year under miles.
the last time we had a lead against bama, miles was the coach

59th in total offense isn't on the list of worse LSU offenses.
you just posted about short field position and then used TOTAL yards as your measuring stat?

its severely skewed towards HUNH teams.
team a has 500 yards on 80 plays
team b has 499 yards on 60 plays.
total says team a was more productive but team b was actually the more productive offense when the ball was snapped.

Yards per play is a more precise stat when it comes to offensive production. Teams with great defenses don’t normally have huge total yards stats because they’re getting the ball with much better field position and they’re also grinding out leads late in games as where teams with bad defenses get a lot of garbage time yardage because they’re throwing 20 passes in the 4th quarter alone. Yards per play, touchdowns, pass efficiency and points per possession are more telling than total offense. I’d much rather have a team that throws for 3,000 yards averages 9 yards per attempt and 30 TDs 7 INTs with a run game that averages almost 6 yards per carry with 30 TDs than an offense that throws for 5,000 yards on 6.8 ypa with 45TDs and 18 INTs with 4.9 ypc rushing and 15 TDs.

I'll never ever understand why Miles would never try putting #5 and #7 in the backfield. He bullshitted us about risk to a star back, extra blocker blah blah

Ah, the offense of Les Miles when a pass to the tight end or a running back was considered a trick play

12-0>>>9-3 by my math, maybe you learned that new math?
Maybe you are happy with pretty losses?
If we had burrow, Flynn , matt mauck, the offense would have looked sexier, and maybe 14-0 instead of 13-1.
Maybe? Our fing Olive got killed in the Mulligan game especially the tackles

Yep in 2010 thru 2012 we were dominant on the line of,scrimmage. Very much like Bama. Had we had a QB we could have played for, three NCs instead of one.
We have not been dominant on the line of scrimmage since 2012. In addition Bama has moved forward and increased the talent gap and opened up the offense.
We have probably closed the talent gap from a chasm to just a gap at this point. But we are still outclasses on the LOS. Burrow is much better than JJ and Jarrett Lee back in the day. But Bama has Tua.. even better. Bama has multiple 4 and 5 star RB and better WR than we do. LSU probably better at DB. Other than that Bama leads LSU at every position group.

Bama has 7-8 potential first-round picks for 2020.

Three of the potential first rounders are DBs.

was no slouch as many imply
It was servicable, although not great. The strengths of that team were special teams and defense, not offense.
Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson performed well (mostly on short fields) and the redzone TD production that year was superb.
It should be noted that LSU was +20 in turnover margin in 2011. Let me repeat: +20. That's the best I've ever seen in this department; it turns an age-old adage completely on its head: the best OFFENSE is a good DEFENSE.

Total yards is not meaningless but it also isn’t a great indicator of efficiency which is really what I think is more important.
There are bunch of teams in the top 40 of total offenses every year that are hovering around .500 because they put up style yards on patsies, give up 700 yards on defense and can’t get crucial yards to win games when they need to.

Another thread where Ricky and his merry band of lemmings regurgitate the same arguments without acknowledging that Miles left a gaping hole in the offense with his 2016 recruiting class.
