So you are just prejudicing an entire line of work because 'they do it too.'
Every industry had sanctimonious assholes.
Every industry had sanctimonious assholes.

Nope. I mention the good folks for the purpose of NOT villainizing the industry. And, cite that it’s the companies who create the position/structure......player/game thing.

Working in the industry for the last 20 years it has become blatantly obvious that possessing a degree does not equate success

And I responded to a statement that refinery jobs aren’t secure. Which isn’t true. Pay attention

An education doesn't equal success, but money also doesn't equate to success when it comes with working 20+ days in a row, while missing your kids' birthdays, holidays, and other family life events.

I don’t think you understand how it works. I’ve never worked 20 days straight

bingo, chasing the bucks as your life slips by you without you participating in it is pretty sad, it's all I can do to put in my nine days a month as it is, and if it conflicts with little Jaxyn's travel ball, or my sweet little Payzlie's dance competitions, fuhgeddaboudit!!

How many days do you work in a row on a turnaround? I don't know all the in's and out's, but I do have a family member who is an operator and he's constantly missing weekend visits, holidays, etc...

Turnaround where I work you have to have every 14th day off. So you basically work 13 and 1. Our turnarounds are short (about 4 weeks max) and we have 2 a year most of the time.
I definitely don’t enjoy working at the refineries, I actually just graduated from ULL with a different degree, but I’m using my Instrument Tech Degree to pay off my student loans. They pay too much not to take advantage of it.
But I do agree, plant work sucks and the atmosphere sucks, but the employees are well taken care of. I’m only working 4/10s right now.

All the operators I work with own 400k+ homes. I don’t necessarily agree with spending that much but it’s definitely no double wide.
Closest thing they own to a double wide is their 50k camper they use for vacations.

Oil prices dropping often times increases margins for refiners.
Exactly. The guy said oil prices dropping would hurt plant jobs, and the exact opposite is often true.

and that's why they're toiling their lives away working for the man, so Jody can enjoy all of that

Jodi is a plant baw. It’s a lot more target rich environment in the 9-5 range Monday-Friday. Jodi’s out hunting house wives at the gym and supermarket.

I'm assuming you know this because they bragged about how much their homes cost?

shite. I've recently moved to Clanton Alabama for 28K. Fight me.

Another non-operator telling the operators how much they work.
I’m an operator at a major. My base schedule is 84 hours per 2-week pay period, which consist of 3 days shifts and 4 night shifts or the opposite. I work 7 12hr shifts ever 2 weeks.
If I want overtime I sign up, sometimes it falls to me, sometimes it doesn’t.
Most people sign up for the OT list,
if multiple people put “yes” it goes to who has the least overtime worked in the year.
If everyone puts “no” (rare) the guy with the least hours gets forced to work it.
But someone always has “yes” so I basically hand pick what days I want to work overtime and what days I don’t.
I personally like to pick up 1-2 extra OT shifts per 2-week pay period. Usually, I pick up a couple week day day-shifts where I wouldn’t be doing much anyways. This gives me an extra $1600 on my pay check
