Tailgating at Texas

Anyone familiar with the tailgating rules at Texas? We have a group going down and staying a couple blocks from campus. We'd like to bring our gear down and setup on campus somewhere but I'm not sure what the rules are. I've asked a few UT alumni and they really didn't know. Seems like tailgating is not a big thing there. It sounds like it's more organizations putting on corp type tailgates or people having a few beers behind their car in a parking lot. Not sure if this is because of regulations or just that their fans suck.

Thanks. I actually found this which is more recent.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on regulation vs real world experience. Because, by the letter of the law, it sounds pretty terrible. It's basically like tailgating at an NFL game.

I know tailgating for the opener in Houston against Wisconsin sucked arse. Basically had to be in a bar to drink.

I lived in Austin for 15 years and went to a few games. The tailgating at Texas is garbage! The stadium is right off the interstate and the good spots for tailgating are taken by the donors. Most of the tailgating is between the buildings of downtown and on the outskirts of campus. A pretty lame experience IMO!

This was more true in the past than it is now. That said, by SEC standards, the tailgate scene at a Texas game is very tame. A lot has to do with the fact that the campus is bordered by the interstate on one side and is located on the northern edge of downtown. It does afford an awesome view of the Austin skyline at night games though.

I checked StubHub and poor end zone tickets were going for about $300. Decent tickets ranged from about $550 to a grand or more.

Instead of stately oaks, broad magnolias, and vast lawns, UT is a hot concrete maze with ubiquitous construction projects. Most people here just hang out at Bevo Blvd on the north end of the stadium or at Shultz Beer Garden before games. Also the bar scene downtown is very close and most of that is inside hotels

My wife went to school there in the eighties and lived a block or two from campus. I went to visit one weekend and we drove on I-35 past the stadium and saw that there was a game going on. Never would have known that based on the side of campus we were on earlier.
