Missed the game last night....how did Garza look behind the plate?

I was hoping that Garza would figure things out and get it turned around. I see he went 0-4 at the place, any balls hit hard? Also, did he throw anyone out? Look comfortable behind the plate?
I can’t believe LSU can’t recruit a decent catcher.

Florida didn’t have a merry go round on the bases. He handled Cole Henry well, recieved the ball well, and is at least a threat to get a hit at the plate.
Although he does strike out a lot. I like his potential better than Mathis with the stick, I think he just needs a lot more at bats against quality pitching.

Thanks for the update bud, yes I agree he needs to see more live pitching. The thing that I don’t understand is he had a huge fall. Hitting balls off the score board against our arms. At least that was reported, it looks like he is lost at the plate as of now. Way out in front on off speed and behind quality fastballs.

I think with more at bats against quality pitching will help. Also playing in the game will help in my opinion. Guess we’ll see this afternoon.

Florida didn’t really have many baserunners to really have an opportunity to run. Today will be a better indication of how he does against baserunners.

Walker’s delivery is so slow to the plate it makes it pretty easy to run on him. Really interested to see Garza in action.

I think he will come around. His at bats last night looked better than before. That HR may have given him a confidence boost.

When did Garza hit a HR?

More my way of voicing frustration with our other catcher being a merry go round this year.

I’m hoping this is it. Was it Romero a few years ago that seemed to hit decent when he was behind plate but as soon as he was DH his batting dropped way down?

It's more common than you would think. Some guys just struggle to stay engaged when they are only hitting.
Even at the MLB level.

He had the HR Thursday, but I think his at bats were much better than we have seen from him last night. They didn't result in hits, but the at bats were much improved. He laid off the bad stuff, worked into some good counts, and made contacts. He has the raw power, that didn't just disappear. It's just a matter of getting into a count to get a pitch he can demolish, and then not missing it.
Bianco, not as much. He had one AB last night where he went 0-2 right away and then just swung at everything. Fouled off a few, but he was just hacking away.

This comes from A TON of experience with catchers including my son!
I was really interested in your exact question. Garza looked very comfortable behind the plate last night where in other games he didn’t. He looked relaxed and that made his movements behind the plate look smooth which helped his framing tremendously!!! As stated didn’t see him have to worry about runners which affects those two points I just highlighted! And also, and this is key, having Henry on the mound can make a catcher look GREAT!!!
So to be honest i really liked what I saw with Garza’s behind the plate last night but how much of it was due to Henry on the mound? I assume he will start today so I think some of those questions will be answered today! But if he does continue to play behind the plate like he did last night, then he will be a beast!!! Which is assuming his hitting comes around!

...as it stands, he's no better than Mathis at the plate. That's saying something.

I sure hope so, but it doesn't look like that at all. He looks overmatched.

Catchers also seem to benefit from seeing pitches all night. It does take their legs away some, but knowing the zone and seeing the zone are big helps.

Not sure what you are looking at. Most of his ABs last night were miles better than what we are used to seeing.
