Just looking at the two as individual assets. Which one would you grade higher? I lean Morant due to his ability to dominate the ball and control tempo and I also value drafting a player fresh rather than bringing in a guy who has made two playoff runs with a historic franchise. I understand the odds of us getting Tatum are 10X higher just casual conversation.

Tough one. I’m leaning towards Morant. I just don’t see that guy being a bust. He has star potential. Like top 20 player in the league potential.

Tatum is a safer bet, but I think Morant has a higher ceiling. If Morant can improve his shooting, I think he’ll be a similar player to Russell Westbrook. (Just an inch or 2 shorter).

I don't know enough about either to say, but this team needs a star level player that is both an alpha and a closer. Give me whoever best fits that mold. If they both fit that at similar levels then it depends on how good the rest of the package is in picking between to 2.

Listening to Gilbert talk about the AD trade while he was an analyst he likes Jrue and feels the Pels can be competitive immediately post trade. Many of us felt down the stretch as Jrue took over the team. I'm guessing he might value the more proven players from Boston's package over a bunch of kids and picks from New York.

Ja should be in serious discussions for #1 overall..

He would fit perfect next to Jrue and give us the ball handler we need that would allow Jrue to focus on his defense and take that aspect of the game off his plate.. If we get a NYK package centered around say the #2 pick and Knox, I would be very tempted to take that over Tatum, Smart and the late picks Boston has

I’d slightly prefer the Boston package to a knicks package with the #2 pick. We have to hope both are an option and there force the other into including additional picks/assets.

I think both grade out very highly. and honestly, my dream scenario is that we get both.

But if I had to choose. It's a SF-driven league, Tatum has NBA playoff experience, Ja came out of nowhere and had an incredible year but still only one year of top-tier basketball. I love Morant, but I'd take Tatum

Boston's package would be slightly better right now, but looking at the potential of Knox and Morant, along with them throwing in another guy (probably Ntilikina), then add our #7 pick and a guy like Bol Bol, that would make us a very young team, but very energetic and capable of putting up big points

Morant/Ntilikina
Jrue/Moore
Knox/Kenrich
Randle/FA
Bol Bol/Okafor

Or we could flip it and bring in Cousins or Vucevic, and draft Doumbouya..

I would still prefer the Celtics package, but I think they would have to keep the 2 non lottery picks and throw in Brown to beat a potential Knicks deal

Other than the Knicks lottery pick, their package is extremely weak. The only player I like on the Knicks roster right now is Mitchell Robinson.

Knox advanced stats wise was one of the worst players this year

I assume you are referring to Griffin. I have heard him say that as well. I only hope he does not take the Demps approach of trying to stay competitive short term rather than build for the long term.

He said he wanted 3 things as an analyst

Draft picks
Player who projects to be a star
And elite role player(s)

That’s perfectly fine for the present and future.

that sounds identical to a Celtics deal
and I’m good with that too

Dell was trying to prove to the NBA that he knew what he was doing. Griffin has been there and done that. I think the appeal for Griffin is a totally blank canvas to create what he pleases with the ultimate asset in AD, money to spend, a fan-base/owner that desperately wants a winner, and a fan-base/owner willing to give Griffin space to work. Imo it's why he chose the Pels even knowing there was an open Lakers job.

And if that's why he came, he's looking to create a culture
