Rick Leonard pick looks even worse now

Given how bad a reach it was and how badly they need depth on the oline, it was a bad pick then and looks even more terrible now.
A rare miss by the saints these days. I'd be surprised if the 2nd didn't go to an olineman.

Thoughts on the Will Clapp pick?

I agree but wouldn't be surprised if we didn't grab a WR either. Latest mock i saw had us getting Deebo.
I am thinking we move up in the draft and add a 3rd or late second.

Well, considering will Clapp was pick 245 and was actually active for the saints and Leonard was pick 127 I'd say it's worked out better so far. I'm not buying him being the future at center though, still needs work.

7th rounder who made the 53 on a super talented team should be viewed as a good pick. If Clapp sticks again then it’s obvious they like him for 2020 with all the coming roster challenges

Clapp isn’t going to be an all pro linemen, but he has versatility and can be relied on

In the NFL it doesn't matter how you get there. From what I hear Nate Wozniak is actually developing nicely as well.

Don't sell Clapp short here. He is young and has the talent and will only get better!

Remember how bad it looked when we released Antonio Pittman to keep some nobody UDFA named Pierre Thomas?

I would be surprised if we don't go BPA almost the entire draft.
This has its limits of course
Was a head scratcher then.

This is true from the player perspective, not the team.
A few years ago when the Saints were constantly whiffing on players in the draft, everyone liked to point out how well they were doing with undrafted FAs. You only have a lot of undrafted FAs if you're missing in the draft and it led to a bunch of 7-9 seasons.

Leonard was a reach, but I get why they did it. He was a raw prospect with the ability to outperform his draft slot if he put it together. We missed, shite happens all the time.

No doubt. Was just talking about missing on picks in general and what happens when you end up missing on more than you hit.

What about Teddy Bridgewater? Or Taysom Hill? Or Lutz?
All unique paths to the Saints. The team doesn't care how they acquired the player. They care about how the player produces once they make it to the team.

Yeah I mean if he sticks as a backup for five years that’s a solid 7th rounder.
Also with as many picks as we’ve hit pretty massively on, I’m sure as hell not going to complain about Leonard.

It was a terrible pick. A few picks later, the Lions got Tyrell Crosby who's going to start at RG for them.

still holding out hope Clapp can be our 2020 starting C or LG. Can kick, out new guy back to LG if we don't extend Peat.

If he can be our new Kelemete I'd be happy with that
