Shepperd is the interim in Washington, right?

No offense to him but someone who worked in Grunfeld’s front office better knock it out of the goddamn park on an interview if they want the job.

Building a new front office culture from the ground up probably isn’t coming from someone who worked in that environment.

Rosas is the most intriguing to me.

- Demonstrated he has a firm grasp of the modern NBA and the analytical side.

- Demonstrated he can scout as he is credited with both identifying and acquiring unheralded talent like Chandler Parsons, Clint Capella, and Patrick Beverly.

- Demonstrated he can manage a roster and actually win. Was in control of the D-league team and took it to two championships.

- Demonstrated an ambition and set of bold ideas. Left a cushy Dallas job after 3 months because he felt the organization was not going to give him the control and backing he thought was required to evolve and improve the organization.

For me I’d have it:

Langdon
Rosas (basically a tie)

Griffin
Ferry

Harris
Sheppard

My issue with Langdon is he hasn't really demonstrated to me that he is the right choice to overhaul the very structure of the organization.

I see a lot of glowing positives but all of those seem to be traits outside of that core competency the Pelicans desperately need. He can scout, but can he staff and structure a top tier scouting department/pipeline? He is praised for the way he sets the tone of the culture in Brooklyn, but can he create and nurture a top tier analytical and operations department that can help find those unheralded competitive advantages that set apart the San Antonio's and Golden State's from the Wizards and Pelicans?

That I'm not yet convinced of.

Langdon is probably the biggest boom or bust option. Could be epic or an epic disaster.

But I think a bottom dweller franchise like ours needs to take some chances.

1. Rosas or Langdon (would be equally happy with either of them. I don't think can go wrong with either one. Rosas has way more experience which is a great thing. But if you were gonna take a chance on somebody Langdon is the right person to take a chance on)

2. Griffin (kinda hard to judge his actual talent level. But he is a big name and has the clout to demand things be done in better ways in the front office)

3. Ferry (would actually be a good hire. But he's a meh hire in the sense that it wouldn't be a full overhaul of the front office like a lot of us would've liked. So good hire, just not the exciting hire.)

And I don't want Harris or Sheppard at all.

I'm not opposed to the guy outright(Langdon) but that is how I see him as well.

Which is why ultimately I would rather a guy like Rosas(of the list provided that is) because his ceiling is just as high IMO but his floor isn't epic disaster.

He gets interviewed for almost every opening. I don't understand.

Rosas is the best balance between boom or bust to me. Sharp guy, worked under one of the best GMs in the business, analytics background, had brief experience as a GM and learned from that experience to know what he needs to run an org.

Langdon is a massive risk, but everyone is raving about him so you could be getting in on the ground floor of a star.

Harris and Sheppard I just don't understand at all.

People underrate Griffin because of Lebron. Lebron gets credit for all the wins and he gets stuck with the bad. He managed the Cavs and Lebron really well.

According to Stein, Griffin has apparently already interviewed today.

One thing that scares the shite out of me about Griffen:

He was the one that convinced everyone to take Bennett #1. He lobbied extremely hard for him. Ownership originally wanted Oladipo and Chris Grant did not want Bennett. But he lobbied so hard he convinced everyone else and they took Bennett.

And that isn't spin, Griffen admits it and says it was all him and he fricked up bad.

Its good that he admits it and realizes his mistakes, but man was that a total frick up.

quote:

“The issue with Anthony was, and we had no way of knowing it at the time, the kid had no desire to overcome adversity whatsoever. As soon as it was hard, he was out,” (David) Griffin said. “His whole life, he rolled out of bed bigger, better, and more talented than everybody else. As soon as it was hard, it was over. And I was the one on campus at UNLV. I’m the one who got sold the bill of goods and I bought it hook, line, and sinker. You (expletive) up sometimes. But I feel bad Chris took it for that, because Chris was the one guy who wasn’t sure.”

He was also 2nd in command when they drafted Waiters.

Also I've seen some people saying that he's not big on analytics.

I don't know.

Griffin hired David Blatt and fired him for Tyron Lue. I know Lebron was all over that, but I don’t want someone that’s been proven to get pushed around by players

Yeah, I'm really not sure what to think of him.

He's getting so much respect out there but to me...his record doesn't really justify it.
