Wait, what? I was only a little kid then, but i’ve always thought it woulda been really cool to have been there, esp since it was in Guinness as the largest indoor rock concert in history.. why did it suck? Stones also played the Dome in ‘78 and ‘89, wonder if those sucked too(?)

The acoustics in the dome were terrible. It was a very generic performance by the Stones. George Thorogood was touring with them as one of their opening acts, they'd fill in a second opening act with amazing bands like The Clash, Heart, Prince, J Geils, ZZ Top.... except in New Orleans they had a local band open for them: The fricking Neville Brothers. So we paid top dollar to see a band that you could see any weekend in New Orleans.

It was the venue not the band.

I saw the Stones in the Astrodome in 81, the sound was terrible, it was not really anyone's fault, most concerts in large arenas then had terible sound. Concert sound was still developing, they had learned how to make it loud, but fidelity in arena size shows was not there yet.

What's your opinion on the pervasive alcohol?
Alcohol doesn't reek like weed. I support legalization but it needs to be treated like cigarettes, smoke it far away from the non-trashy people.

The Stones sucked. Doobies and Van Halen were great.

The frick they don’t

Eta: as long as you list the excuse as cultural education they will excuse it. They know where you’re going.

That was the Some Girls tour in '78. Another reason that we were pissed at the choice of opening acts for '81.
