The US Census bureau created an interactive game where players guess which city is more populated.
I scored 49/63 on my first attempt.

56/63 not bad
Have to remember it’s metro population and not city population.

54/63 on my first try.
Missed 6 first round matchups, 2 second round matchups, and then 1 elite 8 matchup... I thought Boston metro was bigger than Atlanta. Guess not.

Each new game scrambles the cities
The state population version is pretty cool too

I'm a demographics and geography nerd, so this is right up my alley.
61/63
Only missed on Birmingham vs. Hartford and Cleveland vs. Columbus in the first round.
If I had to guess, people will forget that "Riverside" is essentially the Inland Empire, which is HUGE. Metro Detroit and metro Baltimore are also much bigger than most probably realize given their reputations.

Perfect except for Riverside. WTF?

I got the entire top left bracket right.
Misses were picking San Jose over Orlando, Knoxville over Worcester, Detroit over Boston, Austin over Kansas City, Las Vegas over Pittsburgh, New Orleans over Providence, and Salt Lake City over Oklahoma City.

I do a lot of market research for a massive international hospital company. I do look at metro populations (and other demographics) on a nearly daily basis.
I'm ashamed I only got 56/63

Some of those first rounders aren't so easy even if you know the numbers well. Tampa/Indy, Birmingham/Hartford, Jacksonville/Albany, Charlotte/Austin, Cincinnati/Baltimore, Columbus/Cleveland, Sacramento/San Antonio, and OKC/Memphis aren't obvious at first.
Riverside is going to get people as well. 4+ million people in the Inland Empire.
