Almost all of her side of the family sucks arse. I just want to bail as soon as it's socially acceptable

My mom makes name cards and assigns people seating based on who they'd be least likely to get along with. I'm convinced of this shite.

She sat me next to my socialist cousin and her neutered, skinny Jean wearing husband last Christmas. I had like 4 bourbons before the meal. It did not go well

We have an enormous extended family so there is never assigned seating because of the chaos. For Thanksgiving, the guys are usually eating in the recliners in front of the tv watching the football games. The girls are gathered around the table eating talking about their nonsense.

Or she can stop being a control freak.

Since she’s prepping the meal, she probably wants to make sure she’s seated closest to the kitchen. Also, she keeps up with who is a leftie, etc. and where to put them. I’m not a mom, but at dinner gatherings I always make placecards for each guest as a nice touch.
