No Foreign bands and no current what passes for rock music.
Also no particular order.
Aerosmith
Van Halen
KISS
Metallica
Alice Cooper
Honorable Mention : GnR in case you don't count Alice as a band.

I obviously borrowed this idea from 2 recent posts, just tossed the U.S. part in it and disallowed current bands.. Thx to original posters.

I have trouble taking Van Halen seriously as a hard rock ban.
Or I just have trouble taking those guys seriously, at all.
Maybe it’s because I was older when they hit it big, but their stuff sounded pretty vanilla to me.
Plus lol at DLR

Nirvana is easily a top 5 influential band. You could probably add The Doors to the list too because it seems like everybody goes through a Doors phase when learning about rock music.

As far as the indy scene goes, Melvins and Bad Brains are both highly influential. Faith No More is up there as well.

MC5
Grand Funk RR
Early Jefferson Airplane
Buffalo Springfield
Johnny Winter
CCR
Doors
We're talking influential here. These guys laid a lot of the groundwork for the bands named in the OP.

The New York Dolls influenced the punk rock movement and the look of every 80s hair band.

How has no one said Soundgarden?
Do we have to date ourselves to make this list?
If you grew up in the 70s I understand Van Halen others mentioned( UK owned this time)
The 80s Metallica or Slayer
The 90s(my teenage years) Ill stick with this as my INFULENTIAL base
Again Soundgarden jumps right out.
Alice In Chains
TOOL
Pantera
Kyuss
If ^ isnt hard rock then kindly gfy

I'm no old school rock historian, but wasn't Judas Priest doing Metallica and Pantera well before Metallica and Pantera were? Kind of surprised I hadn't seen them mentioned, but maybe that's for a reason.

This thread is pretty pathetic. That's all we have to show for in this nation of millions? It makes you appreciate, even more, how much talent, and legends, came from the little island of the UK.
