Why though? Can they not get money?

Epic is offering the publisher more money. More money to publishers the less likely they need to rely on microtransactions and the sort.

It's very similar to console exclusives. It separates the community and hinders growth.

That may be true, but there are a ton of issues with Epic from the consumer side of things.

If I like a game, I'll buy it. I hate having Steam, Origin, uPlay, and GOG but I'll deal with it. Of those, Steam is my favorite and I would love it if all my games went through it but I understand they won't.

These companies are not altruistic. Why are you caping for giant corporations. They're not going to treat you better because they made $12m in profits instead of $11m.
