Might have been the biggest comedy loss we've seen before mid career.

yep, he had so many more years, he was only 43 and I think he would have been able to transition into some really good dramatic roles as well.

Uncle buck is one of my favorite movies. Also his role in home alone is underrated.

I saw something the other day, he did his entire role in Home Alone in one day. He told them he had 24 hours available and they kept him for almost a full 24 hours

It's really only two scenes... the airport scene and the scenes in the van. Having worked with John Hughes alot, maybe he knew that if he didn't put a timeline on it, he would get dragged out and feel like he was wasting time.

TOM TUTTLE! TACOMA, WASHINGTON!
As funny as he was, and God was he funny, he nailed those dramatic moments. the final speech in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles or the reconciliation in Uncle Buck. Yet he knew to tie it back with a comic tag by falling down.
Finally:
"Yeah, it's a 50 caliber. They used to use it to hunt buffalo with... up close. It's only legal in two states... And this isn't one of them."

That sequence at the end of the PTA after what had gone on in the film, just heart breaking.
Also, this

I watched Great Outdoors for the first ever recently. It was hilarious.

There's nothing left on that plate but fat and gristle.
