The service could open up console gaming to more devices, letting users stream high-end games without buying a console like the PlayStation or Xbox.

Google will unveil new gaming hardware in a keynote speech at a major video game conference next month, 9to5Google reported, taking on traditional players in the gaming space like Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's PlayStation.

The service is said to let users stream console-quality games on cheaper hardware, with the ultimate goal of offering a "Netflix for games" subscription service. With the move, Google could shake up the growing gaming industry, which research firm Newzoo predicted booked $138 billion in revenue in 2018.

Google's gaming initiative, known as "Project Yeti" as first reported by The Information, will be taking on traditional and newer players in the gaming space. Nvidia and Sony already offer streamed games, and Microsoft is working on a streaming product called Project xCloud. Even Amazon has been working on a video game streaming service, according to The Information.

This sounds like it will fail pretty quickly.

Do gamers like playing games for a couple hrs at a time?? Seems like the netflix deal just spreads it out thin, and will still be top heavy. Then they will just start charging more for it. Then gamers will nerd out on ways to circumvent google.

Google needs to find a way to stop their "prying eyes" before i'll trust them in any venture they do.

I played the AC demo on the service and it worked flawlessly for me. I'd pay for the service.

Would be cool to play the couple games I want on each platform without having to buy both platforms

I wrote a bidness writing paper at LSU on the home video game crash of the 80s and the resurgence in the 90s via PSX(original Playstation for you youngons), N64, and Sega Saturn. Probably the only A I ever got on something in english that I didn't plagerize.

Anyhoots. I think we're headed for another crash, but only for the consoles not the content.

This is very interesting stuff even if you're not an active gamer in your 40s but appreciated them as a kid and the market for it today with our own kids.

You should be getting a free copy of AC Odyssey for participating. If I would have known about all that I would have signed up

Did you get the email for a free download of odyssey? I played around with Gstream a little in November and was pretty impressed.
