#1 St. Paul's (Covington, LA) vs. #2 Jesuit (New Orleans, LA)
Didn't realize what a rivalry this had become!
MaxPreps has St. Paul's and Jesuit ranked as the two top teams in the nation (poll last updated today, 2/19)
LINK
LA Div 1 State Championship Game Results over last 10 years:
2009: Jesuit defeated St Pauls 3-1
2010: Jesuit won finals 2-1
2011: St Pauls defeated Jesuit 2-1
2012: Jesuit defeated St Pauls 3-2
2013: Jesuit defeated St Pauls 2-1
2014: St Pauls won finals 3-0
2015: St Pauls defeated Jesuit 3-0
2016: St Pauls won finals 3-0
2017: St Pauls won finals 5-1
2018: Jesuit as a 15-seed defeated 1-seed St Pauls 2-1
Each school has won 5 state championships over the last 10 years. The tie-breaker for a 6th state championship over the last 11 years will be held on 2/23, 7:00 PM @ Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex in Lafayette.
Anyone going to Lafayette to watch some premier amateur soccer this weekend? Sure we have alum of both schools that post on this board so figured it was worthy of discussion.

I will be there. Should be an epic game. Both teams are stacked with high level club players, and that's just on their benches. I think it's going to be another tight one like last year, where one bit of quality play at the right moment will win it.

Also, unless they move the game to St. Thomas Moore or another turf field, the grass field at ULL is going to be a mess with all the rain and with the Div I boys game played last. I think that may work to Jesuit's advantage. St. Paul's is a better passing team and the field conditions may slow them down and allow Jesuit's defense to keep them in it.

I'm assuming that they've already played each other at some point this year.
How did those games go?

They played very early in the season at Jesuit's field. It was a 0-0 tie.

What happened last year? I saw that 2015 game in NOLA and that St. Paul’s team was just so impressive. Most impressed I’ve ever been watching a high school team. Incredibly well coached and everyone looked like college level players.

Last year St. Paul's was heavily favored. Jesuit had uncharacteristically lost in the quarters in the two years prior. Everyone thought Jesuit would get waxed. St. Paul's was grinding out a 1-0 win with just a few seconds left in regulation when the Jesuit midfielder Tadros took a pass back from the forward Perkins and blasted a shot in goal from far out. St. Pauls was so stunned they never regrouped and Jesuit was able to score in OT and win. It was one of the better finishes in finals history.

Yeah, last year’s game was incredible. St. Paul’s was seconds away from five straight titles. Mentally they never recovered after that incredible goal from Tadros. They were just shell shocked. The golden goal was a great free kick play.
I hope this year’s game is as entertaining. The D-II between Lakeshore and Holy Cross should be a good one, too.

Their 2011 team was so stacked too, and they beat an even more stacked Jesuit team

St. Paul's team last year may have been their best ever. They destroyed everyone all year until the final. But any team can be beat.

Cant believe how out of the loop I was on this. I played high school soccer and graduated in '09 and never kept up after I left. These 2 were premier when I was in school too obviously but theyve dominated ever since.
Had ties back in HS to both schools teams. My brother was the coach of the JV team at Jesuit and I played club soccer with a lot of the St Pauls players.
Does anyone know if theres a way to stream the game live or any other way to catch a replay? Ill be at a parade Saturday night.

Mason Robicheaux at App. State
Goalie probably could have but he decided early in senior year that he was done after high school.

I wonder how these teams would do against the best club teams in the state, say a U18 BRSC Black or the U17 Mandeville squad?
Get crushed?

St. Paul’s team is basically Mandeville U17s and U18s.
Their 2015 starting XI pretty much all played in college or had the opportunity to do so. That team was the best high school team I’ve seen. They could pass around any team in circles.

Mandeville’s U17s and U16s are very good, St Paul should be favored next year if they have all of those kids.

Yes, St. Paul’s has the vast majority of the U16 and U17 top MSC players. Will be loaded for years to come.

This could be the year Uhigh and Chris Mitchell can finally get that elusive state championship
