I know mainieri will give Hughes every chance to hold a spot in the lineup but I'd like to see someone else try 3b tomorrow. So far he still looks incredibly overmatched at the plate this year, I think if he should fight his way in the lineup, let him do it midweek. I think we need to try Bianco and Reid out at 3b. We cant trade that much offense for defense at bottom of lineup with Mathis also not a strong offensive player but has to play catcher right now.

You’re joking right? .210 is his ceiling

.210? That’s crazy! Let the guy get a hit first before you throw out numbers like that. Oh wait...

A couple of people were saying that they think Dugas should get a shot as well. I don’t really care who it is but it’s not fair to anybody for Hughes to be playing like this and not lose the spot

Way too reactionary. Beloso hasnt earned a spot yet and hughes hasnt lost one

Of course you are correct. You can't make decisions after 2 games. This stuff happens every season though.

You serious? Beloso deserves a spot. He has done more than any of the freshmen so far and there is no way he should be taken out of the lineup immediately following that performance. The kid hits a walkoff HR and you want to just tell him, ok you are sitting today?

FYI Bianco and Reid were waiting in the hole to bat in the 9th

Oh really? That’s great news. I was gonna freak out if he let Hughes bat in that situation

I think the coaches would be ecstatic with .280.
I think they are hoping for .240.

Just so you know, I am not saying Beloso will have the spot indefinitely or that he is 100% our best option at 1B, just that it is his to lose right now IMO

Absolutely. I was under the impression that Bianco was more than capable at third base. Someone in another thread sad he was a shortstop as well so I wouldn’t think adjusting to third would be too hard for him, but we will see
Bianco, Dugas, etc. were in the competition for 3rd base during the fall. Mainieri basically said that no one was ready to play there defensively except for Hughes.
I think he's got to get over the defensive requirement to some extent though. Hughes is possibly the worst hitter I've ever seen in the lineup for LSU. I don't care if he's a gold glove winner.
I'm not even saying that Hughes doesn't deserve to continue to get a chance. I just think that 3rd base needs to be rotated just like 1st base until 1-2 guys take the reigns. Hughes hasn't earn the right to start every game while the other guys rotate at one position. And frankly, Garza needs to show something in the next few games or DH needs to start being rotated some as well.

I struggle to believe we don’t have a solid defensive 3B who could beat .240
Posted on 2/16/19 at 10:26 pm to GeismarGeauxer
Yea I thought it was 1 error. Not sure what the guy was referring to

Yes, I would like to object. Your title to this thread is about as stupid as I’ve ever seen.
First of all, Beloso did not solidify anything with one AB. Have you ever watched baseball? Or played? This was game 2 of around 60 regular season games. Beloso had a decent game. He hit a couple balls hard but that is in no way indicative of how the rest of his season will turn out. We still haven’t seen Willis.
Secondly, Hughes has definitely struggled these first 2 games but, as I stated earlier, it is only game 2. He could start swinging it better in the next couple of games. He definitely swung it better on the summer. And, unless you haven’t been paying attention to CPM in the last 8 years, he prefers a better defensive 3B than a better hitting 3B. I personally don’t agree with that because I think you play with your best offensive lineup the first 7 innings of the game but I would also like to see how the next couple of weeks play out.
Lastly, TODAY WAS GAME 2. As bad as most of the first two games have looked (other than Cabrera, Duplantis 2 HR, Walker, and Marceaux) it is definitely not indicative of how the rest of the season will go. Apparently you don’t know much about baseball. Baseball is a game that takes time to be played out to see how things will go. If after the next 8 games (the games left before Texas) Hughes hasn’t started hitting the ball, then we can begin this discussion. But we have to let the next 8 games play out.

I don’t want to overreact to just two games, that’s why I doubt you’ll see Beloso lock down first, but there are two things I feel:
1- Hess still isn’t a starter.
2- Hughes still lacks confidence at the plate.
We have more than just two days of data on both of those, so I don’t feel like those are overreactions. They may turn out to be untrue, but that’s how I feel right now.

My guy. I said for now for a reason. I just meant that Beloso hit well today and unless he stops hitting well, I believe he will remain at the spot. As far as Hughes, it’s not 2 games. He hit .100 for basically the entire second half of the season last year. Yes, I have watched baseball for many years and you can take your yelling somewhere else
