UK Newspaper Angle

I always enjoy reading the losing team's angle after a game like this. Today's Lexington Herald:
To a list of memorable Kentucky defeats headed by Christian Laettner (1992) and Texas Western (1966), you can add LSU’s 73-71 victory Tuesday night. The stakes weren’t nearly as high as those historic UK defeats, but Kavell Bigby-Williams’ tip-in at the buzzer did give LSU only its second victory at Kentucky since 1989. Or did it? Replays suggested the ball was still in the cylinder when Bigby-Williams guided it home. But Rule 11, Section 1, Article 4 dictates that a review cannot be used for a judgment call like goaltending.

It ain’t controversial if it falls under the rules. Quit crying UK.

Bro it’s bullshite. It was a 50/50 call. Camera Angles show different things. Some angles showed the ball clearly outside the rim and going that way. They can continue to melt. Officiating was arse all game, and they got some favorable shite towards the end. Marlon didn’t foul, over the back on Reid, two different Kentucky players sticking their hand through the net. It goes both ways. Refs let Kentucky dictate the entire first half as well. We whooped that arse in the second half and were clearly the better team last night. They can continue to melt while we will enjoy a road win over a top 5 team.

Their beat writers seem to have crossed the line into being fanboys. It's a bad look for these "journalists".

I do that as well...who knew Papa John was a UK superfan now

The article was reasonable.
If I'm being honest, the ball probably was in the cylinder. But that is almost always a tough call for an official to make in a split-second, standing below rim level. I've seen worse not called and put backs that were clearly "good" get waved off.
If I'm a UK fan (like Saints fans) I'm angry. But that doesn't diminish that LSU really dominated the second half of that game. The ending may be a "fluke", but the overall victory wasn't. LSU stood toe to toe with a team that easily could and (until last night) probably should have been a #1 seed at this point in the season.
This wasn't a game where LSU just had an uncharacteristically great shooting night. LSU beat UK in the 2nd half playing UK's game...defense and offensive rebounding

But what if the first half of the game was called even close to evenly? They don't really have a leg to stand on. They're just so used to getting every call, right or wrong, that they can't handle when something isn't bent their way.
I say frick every single one of them. And their indignant crybaby coach.

This article seems pretty level-headed. Gave LSU a lot of credit and didn't dwell too much on the ending.

One player sticks hand through and grabs rim while the other swats to block shot and strikes the backboard violently causing whole goal to shake...

Seems? You have no idea how bad it is. Even the hacks on the radio in Nashville...Blue Mist this, Blue Mist That, Uk owns Nashville....it's nonstop

I agree. It was close. It wasn't a blantent missed call like the PI in Saints game. Plus it wasn't for a trip to the finals.

I wish our local newpapers come to our defense like this. Instead, just like our fans, we eat our own.

Depends who you ask. It could have been called either way. Like I said 50/50 call and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Damn this site has a bunch of people who can't read rules.

Kige was actually posting objectively about the situation last night.
Kige apparently > the average KY beat writer

First of all, no Saint's player committed a penalty on the same play like UK's player that stuck his hand through the net on Skylar's shot, which is basket interference and LSU should have been awarded the 2 points. Second, the Saints game was the second most important game of the entire season, this was just a regular season game and anyone who thinks this game was as important and meaningful as the Saints game has no idea what playing the games is really all about. Third and last, if the officiating would have been exactly correct on the play in that Saints game, the Saints win, if the officiating would have been exactly right on the last play last night, LSU still wins. Now to summarize, there is no comparison between how Saints fans have the right to feel and the UK fans.
