Across the country, people in Red and Blue states are waking up to learn about their state

That their states have been free riding the rest of us.
Thanks for finally paying your fair share, New York, California, New Jersey, Utah, Washington, etc etc etc.
It's great in a number of ways. First off, your constant blabbering and wailing about how we should raise taxes (in the case of democrats) to pay for more programs has been answered with what you said was your deepest desire: More taxes. In this case, it's not the federal government charging you more, just no longer allowing your state governments to cover up their own high tax-and-spend programs. Now you get to experience what you claimed to always want.
If nothing else, the new tax law is exposing your own hypocracy in about the most ironic and poetic way possible. In addition, people like me who already live in a low tax state that has been managing it's finances without the benefit of free-riding have encountered nice gains in our own returns. My own return, thanks to my paying less than 10k in property tax and having 2 kids ($2,000 credit went to $4,000) increased by around 30%. I didn't even have to itemize this time.
It has truly been a pleasure to read all of the melts (specifically out of NY) about how the tax law has caused a 2B revenue drop in state funds because all the rich people are leaving the state. The fact that AOC thinks that increasing taxes further in her own state (and the country) will not have the same effect is amusing. Should that happen, I'm pretty sure you'll see the Toronto Blue Jays suddenly become the best team in MLB for no reason that the WaPo or NYT will be able to fathom. You might even see Mexico get a baseball team to compete with them.
Thanks again!

That was beautiful, man.

How have we been free riding the rest of you?

And somehow it is still Trump's fault their states have horrid and punative tax laws.

Are all states equal? Why not have a flat rate for all states if the federal level gets to determine that, especially with some states with zero income tax
Also, I am curious, how do you feel about the wayfair/SD sales tax legislation?

The states don't start getting purple until Wisconsin.

Yes, seriously. Yes, I do math.
Look, I know what you (and the OP) are getting at. I just think it's a trite point to be making in respect of extremely convoluted federal tax code.
But I don't really expect detailed analytical thoughts on Political Talk either, so enjoy.

I would rather go to the FairTax and eliminate all of this gamesmanship.

Yes, but this was a necessary first step.

So, you're being subsidized.

And they're pretty low on the posted property tax chart that was posted. But that shouldn't stop cokebottleag from his publicly displayed moral preening about people being subsidized (while he simultaneously brags about being subsidized).

This hurts successful Louisianians but I’m ok paying more to watch the Dems squirm. Kind of like an amusement cost

Also this is gonna hopefully turn some state legislatures a shade more red, or less blue. I recently conversed with some upstanding citizens in CT bitching about the people in the north and central parts of the state free-riding the taxpayers in the south. Hopefully this gets enough people angry enough to go vote some clowns out and even vote red upticket in 2020.
