If they paid it to him already then yeah he'd have to, but was he allowed to accept that signing bonus and remain eligible?

I think so because it was a different sport? He lost his baseball amateur status, but not his football amateur status.

I’d imagine the A’s protected themselves if a situation like this would arise. Let’s say he owes $6 million to the A’s. If he’s a 3rd or 4th round pick, he’s not going to make enough to pay that back any time soon.
