Good thing he can just play in the shotgun for whoever drafts him.

Even rookie QBs like Baker Mayfield & Lamar Jackson had to take snaps from under center. The NFL isn't college where QBs only take snaps from the shotgun all game long.

Why? Because it totally eliminates certain sections of a team's playbook, that's why. Anyone who thinks Kyler Murray won't have problems playing from under center in the NFL on 3 & 5 step dropbacks are only kidding themselves.

That being said this is a bad look for MLB in my opinion. Murray’s decision only furthers the notion that elite athletes don’t want to play baseball.

eh, I don't think it makes MLB look bad necessarily. I'll just use LSU as an example because it's easier for me. We've had multiple dual-sport football/baseball players forgo football to play baseball (Josh Booty, Zach Lee, etc.), and Maurice Hampton this year appears to be headed that way too. Kyler Murray is just an outlier that has options that are very rare.

He's been doing exactly that for his entire football career.

Nothing like sure money,

Lol he was one of the best baseball prospects in that class. He wants the stardom of being an NFL quarterback, bottom line. He loves the lime light like all the kids do nowadays and he got it after being all over ESPN and having to “make the decision” between the MLB and NFL and will get way more exposure on the NFL level.

He’s a way better pro baseball prospect than pro football prospect

and what does that have to do with "nothing like sure money"
he will sign for more in nfl in a couple months than he did in mlb. He wont have to hang around minors for yrs riding a bus hoping to make it to the bigs. Tons of great mlb prospects are never heard of again.

That may be true, but guys drafted in the MLB have no guarantee of ever making it all the way to the majors. NFL 1st round draft picks are guaranteed to make an NFL roster for all intents and purposes. If Murray is drafted in the middle of the first round, he will get a guaranteed signing bonus of about three times as much as the A's were offering. But that is certainly the question here...where will he get drafted in the NFL. I think it really boils down to what sport he likes better. He has options all over the place. If he could be guaranteed to have a long-term career as an MLB player, then it would be a no-brainer. MLB contracts are fully guaranteed, are generally longer, and more lucrative by and large for star players. But he could just as easily flame out and never get to the majors, and he'd be relying almost solely upon his signing bonus. Whereas, his worst case scenario in football is likely much more lucrative than his worst case scenario in baseball.

how do you know this? Based on what?

I listened to a MLB show on XM the other day and they had a rountable of scouts and GMs and they all said nobody had Kyler as a 1st round baseball grade and the As shocked everyone when they jumped up

There is no guarantee he would ever had made it to the pros. i saw him play 3/4 HS baseball games and honestly he was good, but it didnt stand out like he does in football. i could see him stalled at AA

Football he will go straight to a team with millions in his pocket and the spotlight back on him

hes making the right call

You are an idiot if you think Tom Brady takes every snap from the shotgun.

Well to be fair the Patriots ran 55% of their snaps under center this season, which was 3rd highest in the league

But only 4 teams were over 50 percent so your overall point is correct

KC was the league highest at 80 percent. Baltimore, Pitt. Indy, Carolina and Chicago were all over 75 percent

Tom Brady takes majority of his snaps from the shotgun. Don't say dumb shite, and watch more NFL football so you don't continue to say dumb shite. You're stuck in the 90s.

The fact that he focused more on football each year (especially post high school) puts him at a distinct disadvantage compared to other baseball prospects. Jared Mitchell was similarly disadvantaged and never made it higher than AAA and spent most of his time in AA (he too was a 1st round pick in baseball). It wasn't until his junior year that he didn't miss a month of the baseball season for spring football and never participated in summer leagues or fall ball. It's just really hard for baseball players to miss that much time and not fall behind. And his stats in college baseball aren't really that impressive. He was drafted based on his solely on his athleticism and potential.

and those numbers are only going to become higher as fewer and fewer college QBs are taking snaps under center. Once all of these older veteran QBs are gone, I would imagine most teams are going to be primarily taking snaps out of the shotgun.
