They do it to help cement the relationship. Who better than the agent knows the likelihood of return on investment?

That is how it works. Except at Bama. You can buy your mom a new Mercedes as a freshman there.

Some of us just hope he doesn't fall into the trap of wildly lavish spending, which many, many athletes do. We've all seen the stats of a large number of NFL players who are broke a few years after leaving the league. That's all.

You don't say.

We're talking about Devin White here. I'm pretty sure almost everyone who bothers to research it would know that he will be able to repay this car loan.

Yes, smartass... and yet they fail to beat the agent's rate.

The rant always knows best. Afterall, no place has more people managing their millions in one collective place than TD.

Buying a nice car for his mother isn't wasting money. It is an unselfish gift and I suspect she deserves it. If he was spending money on drugs, clubs, hangers-on, women, expensive cars/ clothes for himself, that would be a different matter.
That his first big expenditure is for his mother is something he is to be credited for, not criticized . Lot's of jelly in here...

Nice gesture, but why do these guys have to throw away all of their money before they haven have it?
"all their money?" Lol. Let's assume the car is $70K. He's a first round lock. Last year's 32nd pick received a $5MM signing bonus and a 4 year, $9.5MM contract. $70K is a drop in the bucket.

The beginning of reckless spending.

all true except for the timing.

why is the timing suspect?

People bashing him for “reckless spending” and saying this is some immature behavior are retarded. In a couple of months he’s going to sign around a 25 million dollar contract, he also will be getting endorsements I’m sure. He showed nothing but maturity, and leadership here. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already got advisors, and is investing some money smartly. If any of us started receiving millions I don’t think buying a 70k car is the most expensive thing some of y’all would spend it on.

I want to know who was covering the boarding fees on his horse?
Posted on 2/11/19 at 12:33 pm to Geaux2LSU
Most people are absolute idiots with money. That includes people on this board. Yeah, it’s a nice gift for his mom and all, but already buying lavish stuff before the first check clears isn’t exactly financially prudence. Hope he learns from the many before him who are now broke.

quote:Don't know why you think this is funny. The stats are out there - too many NFL players spend lavishly on houses, cars, jewelry, family/entourage, etc. Then those careers end and the money's gone. I'm not making this up, you know. It's factual.
The rant always knows best. Afterall, no place has more people managing their millions in one collective place than TD
And yes, if I had many millions of dollars, I'd absolutely manage it carefully, and put aside the large majority of it to invest and protect my family's financial future. Sure, I'd play with some of it, but my main goal would be future financial security.
It's really not hard, just takes discipline.
