Booze is horrible for sleep.
I've slept like shite since I was a kid. I just deal with it. I did a sleep study like 8 years ago, and I have some breathing problem.
They gave me a mouth piece, but it was so uncomfortable so I quit wearing it. It pulled my lower jaw forward to open airways because they said it was as if I was breathing through a straw at night. I'd wake up with my head/jaw sore as hell.

Melatonin is not a sleep aide and taking it for too long can cause you to become dependent on it.

Those help me fall asleep, but I can't stay asleep.

Who cares if it’s legal? It only matters if you’re stupid enough to get caught with it

I’m tired a lot but I try to ignore it.
Best thing I can do for my sleep habits is cut out sweets and excess carbs. Of course I don’t though.

Start basic:
1. Eliminate all caffeine. ALL OF IT.
2. Eat right and drink plenty of water.
3. EXERCISE
4. There are supplements like magnesium and melatonin that can help.

Ancient Whispers ASMR (FEMALE) and Let's Find Out ASMR (MALE) are some pretty good ones right now.

I'm stuck on Sasha ASMR right now. Her voice is just perfect. I'm just glad it's so huge now. 15 year old me would shite himself if I opened a browser to r/asmr for him.

I thought melatonin was supposed to be non addictive. What’s the catch?

Workout heavy in the afternoon.
Dont eat past 7.
Remove your TV and phone.
Install a window unit. Set to 67.
Weighted blanket is good.
Get books from library. No e-readers.
Make sure table side lamps are natural incandescent. The led or florescent bulbs emit a stimulating blue light.
If need be you can get a 25 mg mertopurol (bet blocker) from your doc to relax and slow the mind.
Sleep like a fricking champ son.
Edit: you can substitute a heated blanket for the weighted blanket.

Melatonin and 10 minutes of reflection/meditation
Sometimes it’s a stiff drink and melatonin but I wake up groggily

Run and get the heart rate up for a bit, take a quick shower, two minutes at the most, go make sleepy time.

I find that I do only when under severe stress...either at work or at home.
Basically, like everyone else, my mind racing is what keeps me awake. If I can occupy my mind, I generally go to sleep pretty damn quickly. Sometimes, I watch a little tv, listen to the radio, or even read some posts here and that usually occupies me enough to get to sleep. Also, as someone earlier mentioned, I have actually tried counting sheep and that generally puts me to sleep.
Now, if I have some reflux or something like that, it will usually wake me up at 2-3AM...once I take something for that, I'll drift back to sleep.
I actually like Judge's post...a window unit set at 67 with a weighted blanket would just put me out.

Stress is my biggest kicker.. no magic bullet for that one.. some people can just let it float, I on the other hand let it fester and my mind races until I can calm it
