How many white Americans are waking up to this new reality where merit no longer matters? Will this have an effect on waking up the Gen X'ers whose kids are being shafted by diversity?
I think this is a bit overblown and probably affects Asians more than white people. Plenty of people that went to Texas Tech, a glorified high school, are wildly successful people. Plenty of places his kid will go and shine if he has the right pedigree. If he really needs it, grad school awaits him, and white males are still like 75% of most MBA programs. And I've worked with a few Harvard MBAs, all of which said that if they went to Harvard in undergrad, instead of TCU/tu/A&M, they probably wouldn't have gotten in.

Extracurriculars on the resume’ help but won’t mean that much (unless if he is good enough to play for the university). All decent applicants have stuff to put down for extra curriculars.

which is why we're checking that arabic box for my kids due to my wife being part Lebanese! Move over Pocahontas.

It reminded me of this blog post I read a few weeks ago on the topic.
" Granted this was a fairly prestigious institution, though one with an incoming class featuring literally thousands of POCs with resumes inferior to his son’s. With alcohol’s gentle urging, he was livid about it. With one hand he rubbed the skin of his forearm and spat out, “apparently this wasn’t the right color.” He was correct, it was not."

Checks out. Maybe they looked up this kids dad on facebook and saw that he was friends with you and decided that he was guilty by association

You should tell him that school isn’t a good place for smart people.
Started as a rick and morty joke. The more I think about it the more I realize it’s actually got a ring of truth.

Sadly he is white though. Assuming he at least meets minimum qualifications for ACT and GPA, how much will the soccer and piano help with admissions? Would he have to actually make the university soccer team for it to make a difference? And would he need to be in the music program for him to get credit for the piano?
I went through admissions last year with my daughter, who got two rejections but got offers from six or seven elite programs. A bit of advice. Drop the “woe is me” white crap. It’s bullshite.
First off, the kid has to want to compete at that level. You can’t push them hard enough to get them there. If they are a stone cold killer competitor, elite college may be for them. They have to take every AP class offered and work at least a year above grade level. Enter every academic competition. Win at state level and place at national level.
And then they have to do something for others. Volunteer, start a nonprofit. Tutor.
At my daughter’s dorm they have a freshman billionaire, a professional actress who we have seen in movies, and a couple of people who hold patents. National Merit Scholar doesn’t stand out.
At the level of Princeton, Harvard, Duke, U. Chicago, etc, they reject people with perfect ACT because they get more applicants with perfect scores than they have slots.
Get over your damn self and face the fact that the elite college admissions process is elite, extremely elite.

If you’re white, or Asian, it is.
If you’re a targeted minority, then it’s actually really easy. There aren’t enough qualified minorities and everyone is scrambling to hit their chosen quota.
The Med school entrance data is a beautiful example of that.
The acceptance rate for Asian applicants with an MCAT between 27 and 29 is 20%.
For a black applicant with the same score?
It’s 80%.
Drop out rates are also much higher for black applicants. But that’s a digression, and it’s the result of affirmative action, more than anything else.

I knew that the passage looked familiar. Glad you read Porter.
from that blog.. looks like a solid place to mine for r/iamverysmart material
"I believe the time for measured debate on national topics has passed. There are many erudite books now decorating the tweed-jacket pipe-rooms of avuncular conservative theorists. And none as effective at convincing our opponents as a shovel to the face. But setting that means aside, there is no utility in good-faith debate with a side whose core principle is your destruction. The “middle ground” is a chasm. It is instead our duty to scathe, to ridicule, to scorn, and encourage the same in others."

That’s not what elite colleges are like. They aren’t academic murder houses where people compete to survive.
Once upon a time, they were very difficult, but that was 40 years ago, and back then they recruited from a very small group of highly educated elites, who could do that.
It’s not anywhere near that difficult now.
But even then, it wasn’t like that.

Hampden Sydney would also be a good choice. And I mean that.

The admissions process is.
Duke accepted about 3,300 freshmen last year from 37,300 applications.
Princeton had 34,700 applications and accepted 3,100.
U. Chicago accepted 2,300 from 32,280 applications.
Stone cold competition.

It depends on who you know that’s an alumnus of that school for a reference

Your daughter must be adopted to be that smart since her diddy has a hard time with basic reading comprehension.
I don’t recall saying anything about applying to elite schools like NE Ivies. I had a basic question about admissions which would be applicable at any school. He’s 7 years out so who knows what and where he will want to go. Your entire post was an obvious “look-at-me-and-my-smart-daughter” troll. Typical lib too, start a charity so you can rub elbows with smug elites. Pathetic.

She was waitlisted then rejected from U Chicago. Offered by Georgetown, Emory, U. Va., Boston College, Boston U., Notre Dame, Washington U., Tufts, Tulane, and LSU. She went out of state.

Hey jackass, this thread is about elite college applications. Read the OP. That’s the topic. Your topic is race based excuses. Drop them, they will only scar your kid.
