This might just be a case of too soon

Did the guy know the kid's mom had recently died?

This is key.

You are unstable if your reaction to a comment from someone is to throw a desk across a room. You really need to get into a religion or cross fit or meditation. You need help.

A hormonal 14 year old that just lost his mother is unstable?

No way...

Words CAN NEVER become a justifiable reason for violence.

I'm gonna have to disagree here

I bet I can come up with a hypothetical where words create a justifiable reason to beat someone's arse.

What if you have a paralyzed 10 year old and a full grown adult is following them down the street mocking them and they can't get away because they're in a wheel chair and you can't push them any faster than the guy is walking?

Some of you are trying too hard to be a hard arse in this thread, and the lack of empathy is a bit disturbing

good. I'm equally disturbed by your pandering and apparent rationalization of this kid's uncivilized behavior. I don't care what his issues are- short of clinically confirmed mental disorders. Throwing a desk at the teacher isn't only disrespectful, its stupid. Especailly when the teacher is a much bigger, grown up that cah physically harm you.

Some next level posturing here. I haven't argued that anything you just said is untrue. It was an incredibly stupid decision. In fact, I even highlighted and agreed that he was very likely unstable.

I simply have no difficulty empathizing with the reasons he snapped.

But hey, you keep being Billy Bad arse Internet Tough Guy, and keep piling on the 14 year old kid - now with no parents, whose mom recently died - because he lashed out after being made fun of at his dead mother's expense. Everyone here is impressed with your lack of empathy and toughness.

When you go off the rails and throw a desk at someone you don't get what you deserve you get what you need. And an arse beating was just what he needed.

That's a lot of free lunches.

Wonder who the 0.5% are that pay for lunch?

The answer definitely falls in the 14 privileged white kids who couldnt make the cut to receive the free lunch, so they support the program for the rest.

Article quotes his "legal guardian." I'm not sure if his father is dead, but he doesn't have a dad.

If you're a leftist, words are literally violence, so that means the kid would be justified.

Kids being dumb should not equal punishment for those who mete out [appropriate] repercussions thereon. Like that old white dude surrounded by a gaggle of teenage goons, including the one girl who pushed him, then whom he pushed back, then whom he clocked one good time when she charged back at him to hit him. Self defense, yo. Don't start none, won't be none.
