Pelicans expected to open Davis talks with Lakers this week

This is something that’s been tweeted out by Bleacher Report and the like. Idk what the source is but it doesn’t seem like anything credible just people piggy-backing a genetic thought off of each other. I’m sure the Pelicans will talk to the Lakers to see if anything changes but I feel like they are only talking as a courtesy/formality.

Ugh..... okay, I will explain.
So, the Pels can't just blow off the Lakers. And they can't tell the league that they hate all their assets. Because why do the Celtics and/or Knicks put their best offer forward if they know they don't have to do much to beat the Lakers offer.
If you are the Pelicans, you would negotiate with LA. Leak on Feb 8th that you were actually really close to a deal and will revisit in the summer. You leak that you LOVE Ingram and Kuzma. You send scouts to Lakers games for the rest of the year, etc.
You keep Ainge worried that the Lakers are a real threat.
Guys stop freaking worrying. Understand how to negotiate and increase leverage. I am not going to explain stuff to you guys, hold your hands and ease your concerns for the next 4 months. Its exhausting.

I am really trying to be nicer. But I can't explain things over and over. At some point, people are going to have to show some common sense or I will explode. I am hoping that on February 8th things will be better, so I just need to hold on until then.

Of course there will still be idiots, it's best to just ignore it more often than not. Threads like this, I rarely open them, especially when it's started by someone who I don't recognize as a regular here.

I dont understand the attitude - it's not like you even get paid for your basketball coverage.

When this board first started here there were maybe 2 or 3 of us that even had a clue where to look to answer salary cap questions. But we shared that knowledge and now when someone posts an illegal trade enough people know it's not right that I often don't even have to respond anymore. The goal isn't reducing the number of students, it's increasing the number of teachers. You'll never stop the stupid questions from coming but you can increase how quickly and often they are answered by others. At least here. Twitter is a foul, evil place where ignorance is celebrated and fake trades are spread like old people forwarding chain emails.

I disagree, respectfully. Its about decreasing the number of students BECAUSE the students believe they are teachers.
I have no problem with ignorance or lack of knowledge, but act accordingly. Don't state things as facts and come off as a teacher and then poison the well for the other students. That is the part that bothers me. I have spent thousands of hours educating this base and many have learned as a result. But then people threaten to undo all my hard work when they try to come off as teachers and some students assume they are that.
Should I let it bother me? Probably not. But my lone goal many years ago was to educate a fan base that was (no offense) poorly educated on the sport because it was an afterthought in the community. I think anybody would have issue with seeing their hard work ruined by idiots.
One day I won't care any more. But that day is not here yet. My hope is to see a bunch of intelligent thought on Feb 8th and then I can go away for a while. Fingers crossed!

Lakers offer will be better now than in the summer. This summer I doubt the Lakers include Ball, Ingram and Kuzma in a deal together. Two of the three will be included but not all three.
