Not a surprise considering he’s the fastest guy who ever lived.
What’s insane is that Bolt was never known for fast starts. He’s legendary after about 50 meters.
Had he kept running and they timed the next 40 yards, it would have easily been under 4 seconds.

Are you implying he doesn’t practice running fast?

That's what's crazy about this to me. He probably isn't even training and ties the combine record in basically regular clothes, minimal warmup and having to stop for a wall 10 yards after the finish line.

Yeah I'm sure he still runs because it's a part of his lifestyle at this point but I don't think he's training.

I'm not sure this is correct. Bolt has the fastest recorded first 30m and 40m in a race in history.

I thought Donovan Bailey did but I might be wrong. I wonder why he never ran the 60. Just didn’t feel like crashing into the wall?
As for this run, it definitely looks like he ran before the gun and it wasn’t electronically timed. I believe Christian Coleman’s 4.12 was timed electronically although not with the exact same equipment they have at the combine.

The combine doesn't have a gun.
There's a second angle where the time flashes when he hits the finish line. You can see him look up at the time while walking back. I can't find any confirmation on hand/electronic timing, but that makes me think electronic.

Right but this one did, and he left before the guy was finished. I didn’t notice the flash but based on the guy doing a countdown, I thought it was more likely to be hand-timed, which leads to all kinds of variances in time.

It was likely hand timed. Many professionals have already proved that his time was likely 4.54 using electronic timing

That's what I was thinking. I don't think he can do a 4.22. from everything I've seen him do, he gained all the lead in the last 60m.
I think Johnson did a review of Bolts technique and said that it wasn't great in the start and he could actually have been faster.
And all that was when he was at his peak. His projected 40 in his world record race was something like 4.35 or something.

If I remember correctly Justin Gatlin was faster than Bolt the first 30-50 meters or so.
