Has it ever been explained why Obiwan vanished when struck down

by a light saber, yet everyone else reacts just like being attacked by a sword? Is it to do with how strong with the force he was? Or just a continuity thing that Lucas screwed up?

Yoda and Luke also vanished.
To disappear upon death requires great strength in the Force (equivalent to a Jedi Master), great wisdom and understanding of its ways, and for the person who dies to be at peace.

So it had nothing to do with getting hit with a saber? Luke and Yoda just died.

Yea. Obi pretty much committed suicide.

And by that I mean he vanished into the force because he knew he was dying. Just like Luke and yoda did.

Welp guess I don’t need to watch anymore Star Wars. Haven’t seen where Luke disappears. But now I know.

Qui-Gon Jinn was just a POS?
No, he was actually the first Jedi in a long time to learn about becoming one with the force after physical death. At the time of his loss to Maul, he hadn’t completed his learning and didn’t disappear like the others mentioned. At the site of a force nexus he could appear in force ghost form. Other than that, he could be be heard much like Luke heard Obi-Wan in his X-Wing during the trench run.

I think it has something to do with your level of understanding in regards to midichlorians

You are so lucky that you now get to avoid that piece of trash movie. What a blessing.

Yoda vanished, the ending Luke received was an abomination

It was on TV today, saw the rescue Leia scene.
Has it ever been explained why they thought it was a good idea to dive into a garbage bin and be sitting ducks?
More importantly, has it ever been explained why the Empire didn't systematically pick them off one by one as fish in a barrel?
Trash has a portal to dump trash in...furthermore the Rebels created another hole from the top with which to just pick them off one by one.
The more you watch Star Wars, the more you realize all the holes and that Lucas was a shitty writer...and that we were all dazzled for far too long over what was once great SFX and toys and this new franchise.
Furthermore, how is the Empire in power?
From New Hope to the recent incarnations, Storm Troopers are total fricking cowards, stupid as shite and can't hit the broad side of the barn.
In New Hope, 15 or more Storm Troopers run away because Han charges at them with his sidearm blaster while they have rifles or blaster machine guns whatever.

Lucas was bad. If Star Wars came out today it would get absolutely brutalized. Instead of becoming this cult religion it would have disappeared quickly under a pile of internet scorn.

The rescue of Leia/escape from the Death Star was allowed by the Empire/ST so they can track the Falcon back to the rebel base. If they hadn’t made it seem like they were preventing an escape the rebels would have suspected something was amiss. Tarkin even mentions to Vader about his gamble paying off.

you're right, it's a movie not suited for close scrutiny or analysis. And for those too young to have seen it when it first opened, there's really no way to explain the incredible impact of the visual effects.
We simply had never, ever, seen such detailed "realism" in a Sci Fi film before. Not realism in that it behaved in accordance to known laws of physics, but realism in that it truly seemed that you could really reach out and touch it.
As for toys, YEP.
Star Wars gave us great scale models of the SF equivalent of WW2 warcraft. This was WW2 (Europe) in space.
Battlestar Gallactica gave us the Pacific Fleet in space.
As a kid, I made X Wings, Y Wings, Tie Fighters, Vipers, Cylon Raiders etc, and hung them from threads right next to the Spitfires and Corsairs and Stukas and Zeros. It was AWESOME. The detail was great.
You have to remember, this wasn't CGI; someone thought those craft up, and then took the time to actually put them together from scratch.
