26 years?!? This is just cruel.

Seriously. Why would you not pull the plug by now? She won’t come out of her state. And what if she did? She’s a 3 year old in a 29 year old’s body. She would never live a normal life
quote:
The victim’s family said that reports that the woman is in a vegetative state are inaccurate, she has severe intellectual problems but has the ability to move. CBS News, quoting from a report prior to the victim giving birth, referred to her as “an incapacitated adult.” Her baby is reported to be doing “quite well.”

What does that mean? Ability to move as in walk around and feed herself? Is she cognizant of her surroundings?? This sounds worse than a vegetative state.

This is the most despicable news story I've ever read.
I kinda thought the same when I posted it... unreal

I’m glad they caught the guy. The way that facility is set up.....there isn’t a way to really track down any visitors. From what I’ve been told you can visit 24/7 there. If a visitor had been the rapist....I don’t see how they would have caught him.
And people may be quick to say “they should shut that facility down”....the sad truth is that many of the patients there.....would have no where else to go if that happened.

this is the real crime here, leaving someone on life support for 26 years. how is that even legal?

There's no telling how many times this sick POS has done this.

I still do not know how staff didn’t know she was pregnant.
That is the real crazy part. They didn't know she was pregnant until the baby was being born. Also read that heads rolled: doctors and CEO of the care facility. How the hell did they miss that?

She is not on life support
ETA: per some of the articles....this is from her family

They described her as intellectually disabled because of seizures in early childhood. While she doesn't speak, she has some mobility in her limbs, head and neck. She also responds to sound and can make facial gestures.

Yeah CEO jumped ship immediately. One doctor was suspended and another resigned.
I’m sure they will do a very thorough investigation. Local news article mentioned something about this facility being in some sort of trouble in the past.

The assault was bad enough and I hope this guy gets what is coming to him.
How she went nine months with no one noticing she was pregnant is unbelievable. Obviously this facility has some serious issues from security to their level of care.

without any prenatal care or nutrition and being on meds I can see this being possible, since we dont know the birth weight of the baby. The thing I question is what effects being bed ridden has on the menstrual cycle of a fertile female. Obviously if she's ovulating then there has to be some sort of period, but being bed ridden for that length of time has probably caused some pretty severe muscle atrophy, maybe enough to the point that she was just spotting instead of a full period? I dont understand why they werent tracking those, and if they were how they didnt get alarmed over the fact that she hadn't had one in nine months, even if there was no reason to suspect pregnancy they should have at least gotten her a consult with a gyno for the missed periods.
It's an incredibly horrible thing that he did this to her, but it also seems to shed some light on some patient neglect that was happening as well, which is probably why these individuals are jumping ship so quickly.
does leaving the company leave them more venerable to malpractice suits than they would have been had they stayed and been umbrella'd under the corporation, which will obviously being getting sued before its over?

Does anyone know what happened to the baby boy?
Is he going to be a ward of the state or does the victim's family have custody of him?

I am sure a corporate officer in that industry carries liability insurance as well as the facility/company. They get sued frequently in that business. I would think physicians carry insurance as well. The carriers will be ones paying out.
Of course, this is such an egregious case of malpractice and patient safety, the responsible parties may not survive it: The liability could bankrupt the company and force a merger and would think the docs. will face tough scrutiny from licensing authorities. Its going to be bad.

The mother's tribe and family have said they will take him in because he is one of them. Earlier stories had the mother drowning at age 3.
LINK has additional pictures of the man arrested including he and his sister singing Christian Rap songs at one of the Phoenix churches. That article identifies him as a Haitian orphan. He is said to have had both parents until his Father abandoned the family, and his Mother said she couldn't care for the children at which point the children came to the USA.
He has been released on 500k bail. Wonder who paid and with what security?
Also wonder how the Daily Mail has so many details.

JD, what bar was he at when the news guy told him the flight from California was coming in at the given time? (That's the story I heard of how he knew, could be incorrect?)
That's correct. He was at The Cotton Club on Highland Road which is probably less than a half mile from Channel 2.
