The Rocksprings area is a great place to go. No need to go high fence around there. They are plentiful and good number of large bucks. June July for the rut and they will be growling/bugling. Did a hunt this past July and killed a stud. Low fence ranch was overrun with them. Just hunted the water holes. Also you can visit Texas Hunting Forum for even more insight. A lot of knowledgeable people on there. A good outfitter is Mike McKinney who owns West Texas Hunt Organization. He runs a great outfit and has a lot of land access. I can give you the name and number for the guy I call when I want to get a hunt set up too. He is a guide for other outfitters and knows a lot of people. It wouldn’t be a super posh set up, but he’s a great guy and works hard to get you on animals. Also does arrow head digs in the off-season.

Rocksprings
Went there 2 years ago to help a friend's dad run some livestock water lines. Definitely different terrain than I was used to, and riding around after dark we saw plenty Axis. Would definitely go to that area if I were to hunt, even though it was quite a drive
