You're a bad reporter.
The state and image of the program pre Saban does not equal the program that O inherited even if CLM left holes in the roster.
This is coming from an O apologist too btw.

Very true. But the results in 2002 and 2004 left a lot to be desired. That team Saban took to Blacksburg to open the '02 season was one of the sorriest, poorest prepared teams LSU has ever had to open a season.
The Alabama 2011 to present Saban is NOT the LSU Saban.

But in year five Saban lost three games including blowout v Ga and an inexplicable collapse v Iowa in Les Miles fashion.
He also lost to Bama 31-0 in TS.
In 2003 his O was shutout in TS.
He lost to UAB.
The guy is a great coach, there is no doubt about that, but if O had done any of that we would never hear the end of it.
One game or three does not define a coach.

I agree with this to an extent. The problem before Saban was that top players in the state looked elsewhere to play. Same thing started happening to Les late in his tenure here. Some top players started going elsewhere. Saban changed that. Prematurely it seems O is doing that as well. Too early to tell with O.

LSU football had been an afterthought for ~12 years prior to the arrival of Saban. In fact the 1999 season was one of the worst ever at the school, with a team record 8 straight losses, at least 4 of them in blowout fashion.
Saban actually created a winning program out of nothing. That's why even an embarrassing homecoming loss vs UAB didn't generate much outrage; expectations were really low back then.
