Deleted diesel exhaust codes causing issues with inspection or title work in La?

As far as I know if they have a programmer or something that keeps the truck from throwing a check engine code you should be ok for LA. I used to have a mustang with no catalytic converters and I had it programmed to not throw a code. Passed inspection with flying colors every time.


ETA: Although they may have changed their procedures since the last time I got one. I haven’t had an inspection sticker for over 2 years now because I moved to a state that doesn’t require them.

Does Sotf make the truck less dependable, louder or blow a lot of black smoke? Because I don’t want any of those things.

That’s a tough question to answer and it’ll depend on what make/model the truck is and what tuning is in it.

Example: My truck is a 2012 Ford 6.7, I tuned/deleted mine after the faulty DEF sending unit went out, it would have been ~$1000 to repair so I just deleted for ~$900. Mine is louder but no where near unbearable, it’s just a DPF delete pipe but still has a small muffler, there’s no cab droning or inability to hold a conversation or anything like that. I’d say it’s more reliable because I no longer have to mess with DEF and the things that come with it, the amount of black gunk inside the intake manifold was pretty gross too. As for smoke, mine is relatively clean and only smokes when I really lay into it hard. Spirited interstate merging doesn’t leave a cloud of black smoke behind.

This will depend on the actual tunes that he has on the trucks. SOTF just means you can switch tunes while you are driving. So it is possible that the tunes on the truck are higher performance tunes that will blow black smoke and make the truck less dependable.

I did a full delete on mine with 20K miles after O2 sensors went out and the dealership kept it for a week. I have the Dodge that had the regen system on it, I learned quickly that you had to be at highway speeds for long periods of time in order for it to regen. Can't drive highway speeds on Grand Isle and the truck would go into 'safe' mode if you did not regen when the filter got full.

I have the SOTF system and my biggest advantage was that I went from 14 MPG to 22 MPG on the highway.

The truck is a beast that I hope last forever - I have 122K on it now and have NEVER had an issue since doing the delete and placing the tuner on it.

As of right now Louisiana does not have emission tests for diesel trucks. I know of no implications for title purposes and in my opinion, I would not own another diesel that did not have tune kits on them.

Do any of you have experience deleting DPF/SCR system from 18 wheeler tractors?

Tuned and deleted my previous truck which was an lmm series duramax. It was an efi live tune by corey willis (highly recommend) with sotf from 0-150 hp settings. Usually kept it on the 120 hp setting and babied it. Truck was much stronger, picked up mpgs, and always passed inspection. I downsized to a half-ton gas burner like a moron, miss that truck...
