As somebody said earlier, Cypress Inn really did used to be the nicest restaurant in town. It was by no means "fancy" but they produced really good food and service to match the clientele that would frequent a place considered the nicest in town. Now it's probably not even in the top 10 nicest restaurants and as people have gone elsewhere for their "fine" dining, Cypress Inn has unfortunately seemingly adjusted their product to match their knew standing.

I last ate there 2 years ago, and a few things struck me...
1. Their menu hasn't changed hardly at all since the early 90's.
2. Their decor is still pretty much the same it was in the early 90's.
3. The quality of the staff has deteriorated greatly.
The food was still decent enough, but it's no longer a destination, must-go place like it once was. They have a decent location to turn things around with some revamping, but they seem content to just ride their reputation of what they were in the late 80's and early 90's.

I imagine they've moved on to the nicer places in town now.

It was pretty good when Drew Henson still had it. He divorced in 2014 and his wife Renea got it in the settlement. She promptly ran it into the ground. Bill Lunceford recently bought it and it is getting better but has a long way to go to get over the shity reputation Renea gave it.

Love that smokestack.
LOL it caught on fire a few months back, but it was just the years of grease inside the chimney. Resturant was unharmed.
I ate there on Tuesday and it was as good as usual.

I was thinking that happened way before 2014. I moved away from Tuscaloosa in 98 and it seems it was the talk around that time, or soon after - she got Cypress Inn, he got 15th St Diner and the other diners at the time. But my memory may be wrong.

I pass through frequently, I stop to mark my territory and declare my dominance.
