I know how people feel about him and it’s pretty much all negative. I haven’t seen his name mentioned other than an article about Georgia should consider him as OC.

But the truth is that he didn’t ruin Drew Lock. He has experience as a head coach, WR coach and now OC. He is relatively young and I believe he still has a bright future.

Ties to LSU and I even thought he would be the future LSU Coach way back when he left for La Tech. Part of Saban’s coaching tree.

I admit this won’t be a popular opinion but it’s a hire I wouldn’t hate. But it is blind faith on my part because I haven’t done enough research and haven’t looked into his recruiting.

Would anyone be happy if he was named WR coach and Co-OC with a chance to become full time when Steve retires.

I would like to hear the boards opinion why he would be acceptable or why he would be terrible.

I think he would be a better than serviceable OC and a damned good position coach, just not a HC.
Guy gets a lot of hate because of his abortion of a tenure at Tennessee, but being a good position coach or even a coordinator is a different challenge than trying to turn around a dumpster fire at an SEC program.
I would never want him as a HC, but would embrace him as a member of the staff as a position coach and maybe even as an OC.

I wouldn't mind Dooley as the WR coach in the least. The guy has proven to be a very good position coach and really not a bad OC. Head Coach wise......

Dooley—great job at LSU.
—great job at Louisiana Tech
—failure at Tennessee (like many)
—great job at Mizzou

Plenty of upside in that resume.

100% yes I'd take Dooley as WR / Co-OC

Dooley is talented, experienced and capable. He can implement modern passing elements into LSU's existing offense or help in the transition to a full-blown spread attack.

Dooley was a terrible head coach, but he's a proven commodity when it comes to running an offense. Dooley would immediately be the best offensive coach LSU has had on staff since Kragthorpe and the best play-caller since Jimbo Fisher.

Realistically, what is the downside? Are there recruiting issues I've never heard of before?

... why did anyone downvote this idea?

It wasn't scoring points that got DD fired, it was the inability to stop others from scoring.

Dooley would be an immediate upgrade at OC
