Software specialist Synamedia is touting a new technology that it says can track down users who share accounts and passwords for streaming services such as Netflix. The U.K. based firm is showing off the software at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The technology, it says, “combats the rapid rise in account sharing between friends and families, turning it instead into a new revenue-generating opportunity for operators.” The Credentials Sharing Insight software could have a major impact. Synamedia cites statistics from media research firm Magid, which say that 26 percent of millennials share passwords for video streaming services.

Netflix should tread carefully with this. Could end up losing customers.

Cable companies will be the ones to use it.

Seems like they've been able to do this for a while. At least to some extent considering every time my kid gets on Amazon Prime Music, it kicks me off.

pretty sure netflix admitted they were fine with this when they created different viewing accounts once you're logged in.

If I pay for the service, I reserve the right to authorize who I see fit to use my credentials.

It's not like I'm charging them a subscription fee.

I remember when I first got Netflix, back in 98 or 99. When you got a DVD and a week later you got anther one.
I remember thinking the streaming service Qwikster was dumb and wouldn't last.
Now I watch Netflix more than cable.
