Hmm. I wonder what is Les Miles' record against the coaches ranked #1-19? I'd guess pretty strong, at least since he's been at LSU. Maybe .750?

There are a lot of top ten coaches when they have top ten talent. Saban was great when he had a talented team. Not so great when he went to Alabama. Miles, like most coaches, struggles with no talent and wins big when we are loaded.

We will have a better understanding of where he should rank after this year. Saban's players are gone

Hope this is sarcasm as Saban won with Dinardo's players.

Miles is 62-27 as a head coach since 2001 and 4-2 in bowls. Did not come close to a conference title with OSU. Even throwing out his first season, which is a reasonable thing to do, he is still 57-20. Good- yes, great- yes, top 10---maybe not yet.

You do realize he had a better record at Okie State than Jimmy Johnson did, right?

Les Miles. As soon as that dude runs through Saban's players and has to start relying on his own second rate recruits LSU's football program will go to crap once again.

Dienhart was on Rivals Radio this morning w/ Bill King and talks about it:

Fast forward to the 01:40:00 mark and about the 01:50:00 mark

Miles is a top ten guy. Recruiting plus how well he has prepared his teams for the bowl games. A better question would be is Pete Carroll a top ten coach? For all the five star players he has stocked USC with they have under performed.

No, they haven't.

Rocket, you think USC's talent level is inflated? Or you think Carroll has done a good job?

What I think has happened in the advent of these recruiting services ranking teams' recruiting classes is that now college football fans' expectations of the teams who are ranked near the top year in and year out has increased exponentially, and combine that with the internet where fans overanalyze everything and the BCS formation(where people view each teams' path to the championship game) and now people view what Carroll has done is as "underachieving".

Or you think Carroll has done a good job?

Hell yes.

Let's keep it real, most of the people who say he has underachieved on this board are biased LSU fans who hate USC, Pete Carroll and the media for blowing him and his team.

The fact of that matter is USC has no history of winning a national title year after year and they never will, regardless of who is the coach.

Some of our fans have forgotten what football really is.

If I want an objective analysis of UCS football, I'm not gonna come to the Tiger Rant of all places.

Rocket, I don't think it is out of bounds for fans to have high expectations about teams that recruit well. I'm not saying LSU, USC or any other big program is supposed to win the NC every year.

Well, my theory is that in combination with a few other things, fans expectations have somewhat become unrealistic due to the recruiting services.

You may not, but it seems like some of our fans intentionally jack up the expectations for USC in hopes they don't reach them and then bash them when they don't meet those expectations.

Look at Pete's record, his Rose Bowl appearances, and championship game appearances.

We're at the top and we don't look up to many other teams anymore like we use to.

no one else has come close to putting together the recruiting classes that Carroll has put together, so you have to feel they have somewhat underachieved, however i agree with you that recruiting services miss the mark quite often.

I disagree. I I guess if I was one of those people who thinks they should win the national title every year, I guess I would agree.

And I'm not necessarily saying that recruiting services miss the mark quite often(however, that can happen), I'm saying people put entirely too much stock in recruiting services and how it affects their expectations of teams out there. Subsequently, the expectations fans have get blown out of proportion and as a result, expectations have probably never been higher for coaches at certain programs.

And sure, USC has lost some games they shouldn't have. That happens with every school, not just USC.

We weren't supposed to lose to UK and Arkansas this past year.

I don't remember anyone picking Illinois to beat OSU this past year.

I don't remember many folks picking Texas Tech or Colorado to beat Oklahoma this past year and so on.

It happens. It's not just a Pete Carroll thing.
