I'll be honest I didn't read thur 12 pages, but I did a search &
Jeff Bower, who is listed right behind Les Miles was fired last year. This list sucks.

This is my first post so I’m a bit nervous; I’ve seen what the “Alpha-posters” do to newbies…
Against the “Top 10” coaches, in 2007 Miles was 4-0 and 5-1 when honorable mention is added; 5-1 and 8-3 in his LSU Career-this includes two of Urban Meyer’s four Fla losses! If any sports team had this record and was not ranked in the top 10 –fans would riot!

And what's up with LSU fans bombarding Bill on the show today with e-mails and calls bitching? Bill is the national radio host that has been the most fair to the L.S.U. Tigers.

Well-it does not matter-he won a NC..I really don't think Miles cares about this poll!!!

You do realize he had a better record at Okie State than Jimmy Johnson did, right?
But that does not really matter.

no one else has come close to putting together the recruiting classes that Carroll has put together, so you have to feel they have somewhat underachieved, however i agree with you that recruiting services miss the mark quite often.
I believe he has finished 1 in recruiting twice. Not sure. Certainaly top 5 and recently 7. AT the end of each season since 2002, USC has finished 4, 1 or 2, 1, 2, 4 or 3, and 2 or 3. Underachieving? Not by a long shot. Perhaps the only way USC would not be viewed as underachieving by some biased LSU fans and USC haters here is if they had gone 78-0 in the last 6 years.

Oner one hand, many here complain about the media attention USC gets and the media talk of how great they are. However, almost just as many here fall into the same trap with the expectations of USC--thus, the comments that they underachieve.

not saying they under achieve in recruiting if that is the point you thought I was making. They under achieve on the field relative to their recruiting class rankings. No one is even in the same ball park when it comes to recruiting. Three deep with 4 and mostly 5 star players at every position. But they just haven't lived up to the hype.

They only underachieve to people who put an outrageous amount of stock in recruiting rankings.
If you're a football guy, you know they don't underachieve. If they underachieve, then so do many other coaches.
In your opinion, what type of success should he have had to not underachieve? How many national titles do you think he should have won?
Sure, he shouldn't have lost to UCLA, Oregon State, Oregon, and Stanford the past couple of years.

i don't feel like reading this, but are some people suggesting Pete Carrol is a horrible coach because he lost to Standford last year?
Posted on 5/10/08 at 9:31 am to Rebel
Not necessarily but at least one person has mentioned he has "underachieved", considering how good his recruiting classes have been.
If it weren't for the rankings the recruiting services do, I don't think people would suggest he has "underachieved".

a head coach is really an administrator. i know the coach O thing failed in Oxford but O did land in the NFL.
Norm Chow has done pretty well.
Carrol surrounds himself with good people. I don't honestly care for him, but have to admit he is a solid coach.
It wasn't like USC was still pumping out heismans when he took over.
And the only issue with Les is he lacks some charisma that some other coaches have.

I think a top 10 list would be very volatile. As of right now, he's without a doubt a top 10 head coach. But if he loses 4 or 5 games this coming season, he & most any other coach would probably not be considered a top 10 coach.

I agree with this. Also, the ratings of these recruiting classes must be considered for there area of competition. How can you compare a five star recruit on the east coast to a five star in California when you can't compare the level of competition. It's impossible to say that a five star recruit in California would even be on the radar in the Southeast or the other way around. Charlie Weis underachieved. Pete Carroll? I don't think I'd go that far. I think the recruit ratings are inaccurate on a National level.

Alot of our fans, at least on our website, bitched that "the media" was performing virtual fellatio on Pete Carroll and not Les Miles. But, until this year, did "the media" have as much credit to give Miles as they did Carroll?
Sure, USC has lost some games they shouldn't have. Every program has that.
In 2006, UGA lost to UK and Vandy. That shouldn't happened. Does those 2 games prove that Richt is a weak coach? Certainly not.
Hell yeah he is.
Even then, I'm not sure how much of an issue that is, or if it is one at all.

it is becomes a perception issue, when nat'l media members make dumb arse polls about who is better in an objective setting.
personally I love Miles now, but he did make me cringe a little when he spoke a few years ago.

If anybody thinks he isn't a Top 10 coach, that person is a flat out MO-RON.

I agree. I'm now a Miles Maniac 4 Life.
I now have to e-mail Bill and apologize for our fans.
