Only if the pelicans would have draft him instead of buddy

Then we would have traded him for Cousins

No the owner of the kings want buddy

Honestly, like Buddy, with the way this team is designed, Nuggets Murray, like Kings Buddy(who also is having an excellent season) would likely not be the same player here.
Both I suspect would be stuck as sixth or seventh men because the need to have natural facilitator’s next to Jrue, not the worst thing in the world, but I doubt they would be given the opportunity to shine the way they have on teams that better fit their needs.
All that said, the Pels certainly could use a sixth man like Murray right now.

The trade for Cousins was an answered prayer in the quest to keep AD. It sucks that he got injured but people acting like we shouldn’t have made that trade are being blinded by hindsight.

It's the laziest argument i've seen from the shitty analyst. They make it seem like we traded for him knowing his Achilles would tear, and he gets a fricking pass for how shitty he acted during negotiations.

it really is the best of both worlds

I think people tend to forget just how bad the injury luck has been with this franchise. Chandler, Paul, West all had major injuries at points in the Paul era. Jrue, Gordon, QPon (remember having a competent 3...this injury cost us a bargain AND added dead weight AND led to Solomon Hill disaster contract), Cousins, all had significant injuries in the Davis era.
I’ll go one step further. The Nuggets are letting Murray take his lumps and grow. Does anyone really think this staff/front office would have been as patient? I don’t.

There is a large contingent of people on here, myself included, that were against the Cousins trade from the beginning and knew that he would never re-sign here. So it is hardly hindsight to lament that trade..

Demps strategy of building through trade and FA has been such a monumental failure.
its beyond obvious that 9/10 times you need to build depth through the draft

Cousins would have re-signed here had we offered him the max deal, with or without the injury

Dude, he tore his Achilles. That changed the entire scope of the negotiations. You dont get to sit here and say you were right in your initial judgement when they were on a good run when he got hurt.
The Pels would have been more willing to spend big with a healthy Boogie (especially if he played well in the playoff run).
So you cant say he wouldn have left regardless. Injuries always change everything with a player.

But I did, since the beginning. So yes, I was right. You and all the guys loving "Boogie" were wrong. Own it..

at some point, among the league leaders in games lost for years, it's not about luck and more about process from the organization.
again, the Haberstroh article lays this pattern out pretty clearly
quote:
The football-heavy influence on the training staff is something that has caught the eye of Davis’ longtime trainer, Marcell Scott, a New Orleans native who also works closely with Pelicans forward Jahlil Okafor. “Let the Saints be the Saints,” Scott told NBC Sports. “They get all the recognition [in New Orleans] anyways. As a city, we need basketball guys with basketball guys and football guys with football guys. That’s how you get better as an organization moving forward.”
quote:
It’s not rare to see a player need multiple surgeries to correct an injury or problem area. But the Pelicans seem to deal with this more than most teams: Tyreke Evans’ three knee surgeries in 10 months; Quincy Pondexter’s multiple knee surgeries and scary battle with MRSA; two surgeries on a broken foot for 2017 No. 31 overall pick Frank Jackson; multiple knee procedures on both knees for Alexis Ajinca.
quote:
A series of stress fractures and stress reactions to Holiday’s right leg wiped out half his 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Stress fractures are not uncommon. But in 2015, Holiday’s long-time personal trainer Mike Guevara, in an interview with SB Nation, questioned the Pelicans’ return-to-play procedure and said that Holiday’s “minutes were not managed as well … his minutes were relatively high and in my opinion he was thrown into the fire too soon.” (The following season, in 2017-18, the Pelicans lowered Holiday’s minutes and Guevara was officially brought on as a sports-performance consultant by the Pelicans.)
quote:
Last season, Cousins ruptured his Achilles tendon after an excessive workload just before the All-Star break. Playing on the fastest team in the NBA, Cousins also endured the most taxing month of his career from a minutes perspective, which included playing four overtimes in nine days and one game in which he played a career-high 52 minutes. His Achilles tendon snapped in the fourth quarter, his fourth game in seven days. In Cousins, Demps appeared to finally get his Davis co-star. But once again, the Pelicans seemed to mismanage a golden opportunity and run it into the ground.

there's even a Sean Payton quote about the Saints ditching Suri as their doctor because of repeated frickups
quote:
In August 2017, the Saints made national headlines after firing two orthopedists following a misdiagnosis of cornerback Delvin Breaux’s broken leg as a bone bruise. One of those fired physicians, Dr. Misty Suri, was serving dual roles with the Saints and the Pelicans.
At the time, Saints coach Sean Payton explained the dismissal by saying, “I think it’s not one event, it probably builds up over a period of time. You’re not gonna bat a thousand here, but you’re just hoping that more often than not, you’re getting the right information.”

We’d won 9 of 10 before the Achilles tear with SIGNIFICANT wins. We were literally the 1 in 37-1 or whatever stupid number the Rockets had rallied off with that loss sandwiched in the middle. That team was starting to show serious life and the Cousins/AD pairing was showing it had the potential to give GSW trouble with that beef down low.

I honestly was going to put in comments about the training staff in that quote, but I didn't really feel like rehashing that topic at the time and then all the training staff stuff started popping up anyways a few minutes later.

That's lacking a bit of context. Suri was the new junior member of the team that didn't stop his boss from making mistakes. IIRC they went out of their way to single out the head doctor in the misdiagnosis. Dr. Suri was collateral damage in the firing. At the time I definitely felt the Pels were falling on the sword by keeping the doctor of a corporate partner for the benefit of the organization rather than the Pels. And I think that probably was largely the truth of the matter. But since then we've seen nothing but improvements in the process. Dr. Suri is at the games checking injuries immediately instead of an athletic trainer. I still don't like the optics of how we got here, but Dr. Suri hasn't done anything to make me think he's related in any way to problems they had in the past.
