In addition to our bug out bags, we also carry a full first aid kit. I also carry a case of bottled water as well. The winter car is a subaru and they don't always play well with chains.

Looking at this, I should also add a 6'x8'tarp and a few packs of Cool aid to my BOB. You can spread Koolaid on snow and it
provides contrast to aid rescuers searching from above.

plastic sheet/tarp/trash bag or something to put down incase you need to get on the ground or put a knee in the snow.

Deicer in the reservoir and a gallon to spare. Chains if the area allows them. Food and drinks in case you get stuck on the highway for a while

Long johns

A good wool blanket and some bourbon and you can survive any blizzard in your car.

Too many rely on cell phones for emergencies, in mountains getting a signal can be sketchy. Personal emergency locator beacons are not very expensive, and work anywhere you can see the sky, and some provide two way messaging.
